Forums - Gaming - Thoughts/Discussion on Piracy

Piracy is something that affects the music, video and video gaming industry. I've personally pirated music & video. Although when it comes to video games i'm less inclined due to a combination of of 2 things. That pirating games is harder to do than music & video and i'm more inclined purchase them & support the industry & developers. I wanted to know if people here have/or currently pirate video games or don't and was wondering what people think regarding video game piracy?

People who pirate games should be ashamed of themselves

I pirate music, the occasional movie(foreign/hard to find/etc). I dont really feel bad about either though I wish I bought more music. As far as games go I usually pirate games as a trial, rather than pay places like Blockbuster or gamefly. If the game is goo I will purchase. I buy a LOT of retail games and bootleg nearly none. I do bootleg a lot of classic games(flashcarts) and dont feel bad, screw VC.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I pirate music as long as I can't purchase it (and I pirate a lot, both to the fact that I don't have a steady job, and most of the albums I want are hard to get). Movies.. I don't watch much and always buy them if I ever do. Games.. pirating games is forbidden for me... never did, never will. Unlike most fo this country, who calls me a "sucker". Thank god the PS3 is hard to pirate, this should drive sales upwards.

Every study done on this matter has concluded that its effects on sales are next to nothing, and these studies shouldn't even be needed. It should just be common sense.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's for one's own personal use.

I pirate music frequently.
Movies sometimes.
Games rarely. Never since I started taking PC gaming seriously (though I do want to pirate Crysis as I have no intention of playing it, just seeing some of the vistas).

EDIT: I have, however, kept all games that I previously pirated. And I pirated CoD4 for PC because I had already legally purchased the game on two platforms and didn't want to cough up for it again.

I'll pirate anything I can. The only company I won't pirate from(besides emulators) is Nintendo, because I respect them more.

People who don't pirate should be ashamed of themselves. Wasting money on stuff you could get for free.

I don't feel bad from copying something a faceless corporation owns.
It isn't stealing, it's copying. If you had a magic orb that copied some else's car, would you be stealing from the car company?

Justification, I know. But I don't care. I'd rather download a crappy game and not like it then buy it and not like it, that way I don't loose any money or have to beat myself up about bad purchases.

Companies can loose money that way and they can become bankrupt

Music - not really
Movies - Sometimes

Games

360 : no as I feel I get my moneys worth

Wii : Yes - too much crap on the system to be wasting money on. I do it just to try out the games as I feel quality is the bottom of the barrel. If I end up liking the game then I'll buy.

I tried a game called Katana. This game is literally broken. Every time (menu only) I move the Wiimote cursor it prompts me to connect the nunchuck even if it's already connected

Me, I especially only use emulators and stuff. If I ever pirate a game (PC only though, never tried consoles and probably won't), it's because I didn't want to buy it in the first place, so it's not going to change anything to them (the company). As long as I don't redistribute my pirated copy and I'm the only one doing it around me, then I don't find it as bad as downloading movies and let 5 people watch it in your room or something...! >_>

Also, if I already own Gears of War on Xbox 360, I'm definitely not going to buy it on PC, and vice-versa. There are some exceptions to this though *coughBionicCommandRearmedcough*...!

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

I get the feeling that WessleWoggle isn't very concerned about that.
