Well, it look like this game will get around 7 across the board. Not great score but I don't think 7 is bad. Most JRPG is around 7 - 8 as far as average score, only FF tends to get 9. So it's good 7 not great 8 or excellent 9.

What does FF have that other JRPGs don't that make them get rated very highly by reviewers

I have a feeling this game is going to be like Legend of Dragoon...subpar reviews, and rabid fanbase who can't understand why the reviews are so low.

Seriously, from what's been said by player reviews and official reviews, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if you're a fan of JRPG's this probably won't disappoint you.

LoD got subpar reviews because it was a very generic and tried to copy FFVII's success. IU is getting subpar reviews because it tries to innovate but apparently falls flat on it's face(not saying it's bad though)

Modern Final Fantasy = the GTA of the RPG world.  That means unwarranted tens for baffling reasons :P

Shouldn't reviewers actually play these games before they review them?

What you just typed is a generalization of two games that you probably haven't played (I'm just guessing), based on reviews from other people.

When I played LoD, I didn't find it generic, and I could never fully comprehend how people thought it was a carbon copy of FFVII. But hell, that's my opinion, and obtaining your opinions from reviews is never a good idea.

Haze gets bad reviews "I told you this game was gonna suck"

IU gets a mediocre review "The reviewer is stupid"

Such hypocrisy.

Oh yeah, whoever said that "not everyone agrees with the review, Famitsu gave (whatever the score was), Famitsu also gave Lair and Haze like a 34/40

A 360 game gets a low metacritic rating, it was a huge flop and "lawlz" all around.

PS3 has a relatively crappy library, metacritic is just opinion.

Such hipocrisy.

For general use, the game is probably mediocre and that reviewer probably sucks(despite his recent vindication), if you wanna be blunt about it.

However, I'll still rent the game and I'll still read his reviews. I like a lot of stuff, and folks other people think are "crappy" based on assumptions and strangers opinions.

Also, Legend of Dragoon was awesome. How's that for cornball?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

When I mean tried to copy FFVII's success, I meant that LoD was relying on CGI to sell copies

FF winning formula its always they polish everything
story(heart warming but at the same time strong because of war, destruciton, hunger of power)
character the design ( I LOVE RIKKU (L))
gameplay (always changing)
sound(GREAT soundtracks).

many rpg get like 2 right.

Jo -

Uhhh, FF gameplay is always changing? Care to tell me the differences between FFVI and FFX-2? There was a 10 year span between the games...Tell me what all was different.

Final Fantasy is trash because there are so many more deserving good JRPGs out there that are great, and never get the kind of press that FF gets in the west.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
