I agree that a stripped down PS3 for a cheap price would certainly increase sales.

Then people cant say they cant afford a PS3

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Sony'll probably just cut the price and/or bundle software with their current systems. A lot easier to do, doesn't cause functionality loss, etc.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

nothing can get the PS3 to compete with the Wii, nothing

there will always be tha argument, people can stil say that for teh wii if they are strapped for cash

just because something gets down to 399 does not magical create money for the consumre that wasnt there to begin with

all that can do is make it easier for some one (like me) who is saving up for it not have to wait as long to get one

I think PS3 is perfect now. They are going to beat the Xbox. The $299 Arcade won't matter. No one should buy it. Coz all the future games will want the option for streaming from hard disk. Without that technology, the games will be hampered. Selling the Arcade is going to hurt everyone, including MS.
Only real difference could be made if the Xb360 Core unit (60 gig) got a price cut soon, then it will challenge the PS3.

it's getting a price cut very very soon

later this year i think

removing the hard drive is impossible now, so many games have required installs. Putting in a smaller hard drive is going to save either a very very small amount of money or none at all. The difference between 10 gigs and 40 gigs is probably nothing, 10 gigs might even be more expensive.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I could see it happening but I don't see them taking out wi-fi.

It would most likely happen next year some time though unless it's announced at TGS.

 wi-fi costs a lot

taking it out would be perfect to lower production costs

If it costs that much then I don't see why Nintendo can have it through the Wii and charge only 250 for it.

don't know anyway i'm not saying take out the wi-fi alone , i'm saying take out every part that will help reduction the costs
