wi-fi costs a lot
taking it out would be perfect to lower production costs

PS3 is the high end technology console people want the console because it comes with all the bells and whistles. PS3 offers the most value for the dollar to the consumer.

most games on the ps3 need to be installed. so no hdd=unfinished ps3 and wi-fi is dirt cheap
| Rock_on_2008 said: No no no. PS3 needs HDD. A X360 Arcade with no HDD was a terrible move by MS. People who are not into games buy the X360 Arcade. GTA IV suffered due to the HDD X360. I see no future in the Arcade X360 which only accounts for 10% of X360 console sales. Larger PS3 HDDs are needed and lots of people replace their 20GB, 40GB, 60GB and 80GB HDDs with HDDs up to 320GBs. |
i didn't mean "no HDD"
i meant smaller ones like 20 or 10 giga
and btw lots of people just can't afford buying highly priced ps3s

l meant smaller HDD
isn't the 360 arcade = no online gaming? and still people buy it

I'd agree that removing the Wi-Fi might reduce costs, but it would be quite difficult to put it back into the PS3 as a bolt-on extra (The 360 arcade can still get a HDD separately) if later people wanted to upgrade.
Of course, saying that, they could always sell a USB wi-fi adapter...

They are effectively giving you more for your money though. $399 - 80Gb $499 - 160Gb and $70 worth of games I can see the 160Gb model replacing the 80Gb model next year, and I can also see the 80Gb model as well as a few games for $399 for Xmas...but Sony cannot reduce the costs at the moment. They are wanting to recoup some cash first and foremost and then they will reduce the price. There is no way that Sony could effectively half the cost with a new SKU. They cannot remove BluRay and cannot effectively remove WiFi. I fully expect the consumer to get more for their money rather than get the unit for less money. So maybe see a 80Gb games pack for Xmas for the basic $399 with a 80Gb unit, maybe an extra dualshock as well as a few games. |
this is a diffrenet type of price cut
they said they wouldn't reduce the price and this is differnet
if things change and 360 sales increases they will do something IMO

you can go online with the arcade. only a couple games actually need the hdd

no its easy for them to do that, just call it last gen tec and offer it as an add on, that way they look like its all part of the plan

I think PS3 is perfect now. They are going to beat the Xbox. The $299 Arcade won't matter. No one should buy it. Coz all the future games will want the option for streaming from hard disk. Without that technology, the games will be hampered. Selling the Arcade is going to hurt everyone, including MS.
Only real difference could be made if the Xb360 Core unit (60 gig) got a price cut soon, then it will challenge the PS3.
