To be perfectly honest, I don't think that FFXIII is THAT important. Certainly not to the extent FF's were last generation.

Don't get me wrong, the loss of exclusivity is a mammoth blow to the PS3, especially given the Xbox 360 is cheaper. But I think it will be very difficult to gauge. In Japan I think if Sony paid more than a couple of million dollars they wasted their cash. We have already seen that the continent has a massive aversion to purchasing the Xbox 360, and wouldn't have bought it en masse for FFXIII!!!

Its not, at least not since E3. Now Versus is the most important thing in the universe.

Don't forget it.

HAHA!!!

SO true.  Of course to me, Versus actually IS the most important FF game.  I want it badly enough to purchase a PS3 for it (assuming nothing attrotious happens between now and the game's release).  But in terms of sales, its largely irrelevant.

@DMeisterJ

I didn't say Sony paid anything, but JRPG sales on the Xbox 360 in Japan are sufficient to economically justify a FFXIII localisation/port, especially when a port needs to be done for the West anyway.

Also everybody, remember that BOTH versions are ports of the PC build, meaning the Xbox 360 version would probably be CHEAPER and EASIER to port than the PS3 version.

All games are built using PC tools.

I actually agree with you on this one. If sony payed for JP exclusivity, they wasted their money period! It would make the most sense if they payed for NA exclusivity, which is where the box is strongest

Final Fantasy XIII is a massively important exclusive.

Final Fantasy XIII will be exclusive to PS3 I swear.

Final Fantasy XIII is not exclusive but that isn't important.

Final Fantasy XIII will be exclusive to PS3 in Japan I swear.

Importance re-established.

What's next Sony fans?

Starcraft will translate his version of FFXIII for Japanese 360 owners

Problem solved.

It amazes me that people believe that Sony paid for JP exclusivity yet dont believe that M$ paid for the game on 360! Are you serious?

My question is, why would they release it in Japan. I console has a freaking install base of 650,000. Sony probably paid them money not to release it, or they don't wanna risk bad blood with Sony for 40,000 sales.

It wouldn't make any sense to change their minds and release it in Japan now. If they were going to do it they would have just announced it from the start.

There is a lot more to lose at this point making it multi-platform on an install base that basically doesn't even exist. People in Japan will buy PS3's to play FFXIII. End of story.

Hate to nitpick, but there are at least 200k JRPG fans owning Xbox 360's in Japan (as of a year ago when BD pretty much stopped selling).  By now, that could be 300k.  In fact in Japan, the Xbox 360 has a higher proven number of JRPG players than the PS3.

If the ultimate JRPG released day and date on the Xbox 360 (also the cheaper system) I think it is safe to say that it would sell 200-300k lifetime in Japan.  Certainly not nearly what it would sell on the PS3, but as a stock owner in SE and being heavily reliant on the company's future titles, Sony isn't really going to have an power to hurt them.

What are you even saying?

Exactly what I typed.  Hundreds of thousands of Japanese have purchased JRPG's for the Xbox 360.  OVer 500k copies of JRPG's have been sold in Japan for the Microsoft console.  The highest selling one is Blue Dragon, with Tales of Vesperia closing fast.

The PS3 has sold less than 200l copies according to this website of ANY JRPG in Japan.  Clearly the Xbox 360 has a higher demonstrated capacity to shift JRPG's in the region.

If you think about it, there's a lot of benefits for SE to release FFXIII on the 360 in America and Europe. But in Japan? Give me a break, there's not even 1 millions 360 sold in Japan and half of the ones sold probably also own a PS3 lol and the other half will buy a PS3 to play FFXIII. I just don't see SE putting the effort to make a Japanese version on 360.

Does it really matter? Lol you have many people on here(I wont name them lol) that seem ever so pleased that FF isnt coming to the 360 in japan but it doesnt effect them at all not one bit. FF was always coming to the ps3 everywhere the only people this news should really effect is the 360 only owners who live in japan and wanted to play FF everyone els it doesnt matter.

What's even more funny, is that you have many people on here (I wont name them lol) that seem ever so displeased that FF isn't coming to the 360 in Japan but it doesn't effect them at all not one bit.

The only people this news should really effect are the 360 only owners who live in japan and wanted to play FF, which in itself doesn't make one bit of sense.
