Killzone 2 or Gears of War 2
Both games are exclusives that seem to be bring some amazing content to thier respective consoles. Both are highly anticipated.
Instead of comparing these games on Graphic [that discussion will go on forever on this site], since both of these
games are shooters I would lie to compare them on what I believe should be the most important elements in a shooter.
GamePlay: Both seem like fun to me. Gears is bringing back it's cover system and chainsaw gun wielding mercenaries. Along with some new additional features, appearantly using enemies for cover and chainsaw gun duels are 2 of them.
Killzone 2, as far as I know will be the first console FPS with a cover system, which sounds very interesting and can be very enjoyable if Guirella games pulls it off properly. The enemies also seems to have some very interesting AI, especially in terms of cover, on higher difficulties it's safe to assume that Killzone 2 will deliver some unique and challenging gaming experience.
Lasting Appeal: Both games have online components. But it seems that this part of the competition is a bit unfair. Gears will have a horde mode that seems like an amazing Idea for you and i believe up to 3-4 other friends. And the online matches them selves will have up to 10 players matches, I have no idea how big the maps will be. But I would have to give the edge to KZ2, Online component with up to 32 players per match type [4 man squads, also can combine 2 to make 8 man factions]. 64 player clans. 8-10 Soldier badges [classes] , ones that can be combined for more unique class types. Optional Bots [AI] for filling in missing player spaces for both online and offline Multiplayer, and 5 [I believe it was 5] huge gaming maps [with of course the option to download more maps, same goes for Gears on the map downloading Idea]. And online Tournaments I believe, am sure I read about that somewhere.
However, the lasting appeal of an online shooter also goes hand and hand with the gameplay, so your prefered for lasting appeal should also have the gameplay as a deciding factor [which is why I put gameplay first].
I mainly give KZ2 the edge PERSONALLY because of the huge amount of content that's already known about the game, compared to gears. This is all based on what's known about the 2 games so far, please post anything i've missed.
Campaign Enjoyment and Length: While it's a safe bet to say that Gears 2 will have a co-op campaign again, similar to it's predeccessor, this has "TO MY KNOWLEDGE" not been confirmed for KZ2. However with Killzone being a game on a 50GB BD compared to Gears of War 2 being on a DVD9 and having such graphical detail, I would expect KZ2 to be the longer game. I COULD BE VERY WRONG in assuming this, but I would just assume this because the first game wasn't that long in length and TO MY KNOWLEDGE just about filled a DVD9, now the second game is looking to have more enhancements, which of course..... take up space.....
I would assume that a longer campaign would be better in making the consumer feel as if he/she is getting thier money's worth. Some may like it shorter, am just basing this on my opinion when I say, a longer game would be better.
Campaign enjoyment of course also depends on gameplay enjoyment which once again varies from consumer to consumer [again, the reason why I placed it first]. It would also very on the story and which series has held a better story line from thier predeccessor. [Just my thought on it]
My pick goes to Killzone 2...
