Forums - Sony - Why all the Sony hate?

If you don't believe me that Sony is good at making batteries, take this into account, when I got my Walkman, it had a battery life of 48hrs, and equivalent iPod had a battery life (at that time) of about 20hrs.

This absolutely slays me because Apple uses Sony batteries.

What on earth to you expect him to say, that it was all our fault? The fact of the matter is, Dell laptops caught fire, and the Sony ones didn't, do you really expect Sony contaminated their own products?

If it wasn't Sony's fault, then why did Apple have the same problem with their Sony-manufactured batteries?

And even more importantly, if Sony wasn't at fault, why did they eat ~$500,000,000 to replace the batteries to Apple, Dell, and others for free?

Lay off the fanboy juice for a moment and look at reality. The batteries were Sony's fault. End of story.

Don't forget the PSX!  :)  Seriously, the first run of the original Playstation was the worst piece of gaming hardware I've ever seen.  Stops working after half an hour unless you run it upside-down...

Heheh, forgot about the PSX problems. Running it propped against a wall, upside down, etc. People were doing some goofy stuff to keep that system running.

I'm still not sure it tops the original NES, course I was a kid then and I'm sure that had something to do with at least one of the 4 I had. But even the one I have now, you've got to blow out the cartridge just right and prop a special book in there to get the right depth.

As for my PSX I had to play it upside down for some games, and others wouldn't run unless I put another disc on top of it, but the system never stopped working entirely at least.

I went through 5 PS2s as well, but 3 of these were definitely my fault. One fell out of the back of a semi trailer, another slid down a flight of stairs, and another was knocked off a dresser, thorugh a window, 2 stories into a pool(that one was funny, it actually worked again, just barely, for a day or two after it dried)

^^^ dude, you really had bad luck with your consoles, my gameboy from 1991 still works great and it fell down many many times

Jesus Christ, Viz. You're supposed to play hockey ON the console, not WITH the console.

i don't hate sony. it's just that, their PR needs to shut up for some time.

Why not hate Sony? They're not in it for the games. They are a billion dollar heavy electronics giant that found another playground. Did they move gaming forward? Not a bit. They gave to the masses what they want: Sports, violence, fast cars. Sony consoles are what tabloids are to literature. Cheap thrill, no new ideas. I don't feel that the "Sony decade" has added anything to gaming that I was missing.

Even worse: Microsoft. Did the thought ever cross your mind that the whole XBox project is but a huge image campaign for Microsoft? To date, they never made a dollar with games. They don't have to. They buy developers, fund huge projects like Halo and stuff... what for?
I'll tell you my thoughts: Look around you. There's a whole new generation that not only LIKES Microsoft, they'll even DEFEND Microsoft, no matter what they do. Young people. On the Internet. LOVE Microsoft. Think about it. XBox doesn't need to make a single dollar. This is invaluable, thank you, all. Microsoft will be one beloved company for the next 50 years. I bet Redmond is laughing their ass off.

And Halo... now, I'll admit that I don' t know anything about shooters. I couldn't tell Gears from Wolfenstein. OK, I could. But from what I've heard and seen, Halo seems to be the most generic, stereotypical shooter there ever was, only with an endless budget. It's just sooo obvious that Microsoft said "Ok, we need a shooter. People like shooters. Make a shooter, please. Here's money. if you need more money, here's more money. In fact, there will be as much money as you need. Will you please make the best looking shooter there ever was?"

Don't forget: My point of view. If you happen to love shooters, shoot on. You can do it.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

Microsoft isn't in it for image, they're in it for control of the living room... And future profits. Just like any other company, particularly your beloved Nintendo. After all, they are charging $250 for a slightly higher-specced GC. Is it worth it? That's up to you but stop pretending like they're looking out for your greater good. They just want your cold, hard cash just like any other company.

That's great you don't like shooters. Many don't and that's fine. But if you think Bungie walked into Halo with the idea "we're going to make a generic shooter funded by Microsoft", you should just shut the hell up right now because it's blatantly obvious that you know very little about the history of gaming.

/end rant

I swear to God, I don't know which group of fanboys is most annoying around here. I think it's a toss-up.

So I'm assuming Nintendo is in it "for the games", not the money, right? Every successful business, in the gaming industry or not, is out for your money, how they do it is the only differential.

No new ideas? Games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Okami, these aren't new ideas? I won't even mention how far they've progressed the market in a hardware aspect.

EDIT: Thanks RocketPig, you put that (and my) point across quite nicely.
