Forums - Sony - Anyone know how to upgrade the PS3 hard drive?

i own a 40 gb at the moment, and i'd like to upgrade it to 80. so basically the question is, how exactly do you go about doing that?

lol this question comes up all the time.

Make sure it's a 2.5" hard drive (lap top) and you should pretty much be set.

It's also in the manual if you get stuck.
It's really a 5 minute job, just be careful with the screws, they're pretty soft.

yup. thats it. as long as it's a laptop sized S-ATA harddrive you're good to go.

It should work, though I would personally use something like Newegg.com (or something similar since I see your profile says UK) where I could compare prices and reviews of products before I buy.

thanks people :D sorry for creating a thread for this lol. maybe some other people would find that video helpful though :P

just done mine tonight. Pretty easy. I backed up most things. but the ps3 doesn't read my saved games? Anyone had that problem and know how to get the ps3 to read them?

I don't know why it didn't work for you - I never had any problems, but i'd copied my saves directly to an external HDD in addition to the normal backup just in case i needed them but i didn't, even my ps2 backed up saves worked.

Also, I don't know how it works with trophies etc...
