Well i heard that the ps3 uses 6/8 of the cells. One for power and one is just not used... If they could use the 7th cell then I think it would be alright as the ps4... Its just a guess.

1. but when PS3's install base is much bigger, PS3 won't need overlap with another console, or PS3 can just be the weakest console to develop for, no problem there.

2. Regarding a console having "only" price rather than power going for it, see PS2 sales after the current gen got underway with the release of 360 (ie, PS2 trashed 360 for a long time).

 

PS2 has many thousands of games (between 7,000 and 8,000).  It's the price IN ADDITION to that which makes it sell the way it does currently.  And the only reason it got so many was because it was the leading platform.  If you want to argue that PS3 will be the leading platform in five or six years, it's completely nonsense, but at least it's a real argument.

Yeah PS2 pretty much was the only console to get this round no one will have the market share the PS2 had, the closest is the WII and that system will need an update in 5-6 years cause it wasnt built future proof. 

 

Also the 360 currently keeps up with graphics wise with the PS3 if 360 l;uanched a new console that would make the PS3 look the the PS3 makes the WII look like.

 

MS will be the first to lauch the new console but it all depends on how welkl the 360 sells.  The 360 is making money and they dont want to pull and xbox and just drop it.



PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

What's a firmware update going to do? It doesn't bring new PS3 games, does it? :P
It does, and trust me it does more then bring in games...

Actually I see it out lasting PS2, due to SONY wanting to make a decent profit which they will, and Firmware updates to keep it fresh.

 

They cant do it, MS will launch another console and make the PS3 look like the PS3 makes the WII look now.  Heck even the WII will launch another console.  They have 5-7 years max

Only the developers of the next system at SOny, Nintendo and MS who are working on the next gen consoles can tell you.  But I can tell you all three are working on there next system as I type this
