Its 82% on Metacritic, its probably going to stay about that level because the niche review sites do not have the same weighting on Metacritic as IGN for example.

What do you mean but the same weighting

Scores from big review sites such as IGN/Eurogamer/Gamespot have more "say" as far as how high or low the metacritic average is.

Well, it's been said several times, the highest reviews we can expect from Edge and Eurogamer are 7s. They hate jrpgs, and they hate games that are similar to previous versions. They double hate this game before they even play it, and for them 5 is average, I'm guessing a pair of 6's, despite the game's obvious excellence.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Bah, its still not here. I have to wait yet ANOTHER day.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Here is another good review for ToV from Team Xbox(score:8.1)

Alright, 2 new reviews, both relatively positive, with the only real complaints "lack of innovation." I've updated the OP. At this point, the concensus is this game doesn't break new ground, but it is a solid, long, and enjoyable entry in the beloved series, and fans should pick it up asap. I've updated the OP.

Woot, gamespy review 4/5. They say it's the best jrpg on the 360 thus far.

http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/tales-of-vesperia/902961p1.html

GameSpy has seen a few solid JRPGs on the Xbox 360 (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata), but until Tales of Vesperia none have really exploited the raw graphical power that the system offers. Vesperia may not deliver a totally fresh plot, but well-written character dialogue and a great combat system go a long way towards mitigating the cliches. A superior blend of style and production values, Tales of Vesperia is the best JRPG on the 360 thus far.

Now, GAmesRadar 8/10:

Tales of Vesperia is an incredibly deep experience. Thanks to the high quality of each of its parts (gameplay, plot, graphics, music, voice-acting), it's deeply satisfying even when it's mind-blowingly frustrating. You could be done with the story arc in 30-40 hours, but between optional bosses, hidden dungeons, side-quests and the glorious cooking system, you could spend months exploring the wide word in Tales of Vesperia. Tales of Vesperia is one of the best JRPG experiences out there.

I stopped being surprised at its great reviews a while ago. But congrats on yet ANOTHER awesome score, ToV!

I Know it sounds dumb, but I really only care about it getting good sales now. And I have a very good feeling about this.

I was reading the comments under those reviews and they were almost uniformly positive. I'm certain all Tales fans with 360's will get this game, and it'll probably get a bump from the positive press, but I doubt it can reach the kinds of numbers it would need to get some credibility as an important title, to most doubters on this forum. However, the culmination of all the jrpgs coming to the 360, at once, certainly make me a very happy gamer, and breath new life into the console, imo.

Gamespot - 8.5 http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/talesofvesperia/review.html?tag=topslot;thumb;2

Tales of Vesperia is the best game yet in the series, and a beautiful and entertaining RPG in its own right.

The Good

  • Excellent cast of characters
  • Long, intriguing story that draws you in
  • Combat is slick and flashy
  • Gorgeous visuals.

The Bad

  • You can win many battles with mindless button mashing
  • It's a lot like previous games in the series.
