Forums - General - Do you think vacuuming ants kills them? Or will they crawl back out later?

What do you think?

I just found this too.  ( from http://www.farmersalmanac.com/home_garden/a/keep_ants_out_of_your_home )

To Keep Ants Outside, Try:

(1) If you can find where they are entering your home, block their entrance with a blob of petroleum jelly, then later caulk it with silicone.

(2) Vacuum the ants and wipe any surfaces where they had been with a sponge to remove the scent trail.

(3) Strew the following natural ant repellents in infested areas: catnip, mint, cucumber peel, tansy, southernwood, rue, or crushed eggshells.

(4) Place a small amount of powdered soap near their entrance. The ants will carry it to their nest, where moisture will expand the soap, and possibly destroy the nest.

I think they will not get killed by vacuuming by itself. You need to add some ant poison to the mix.

Should I vacuum the ant poison at the same time or put some ant poison in the vacuum bag before I start the great purge?

Vacuum cleanerwould not kill the ants.
Hot water is a good environmentally friendly way of killing ants.
The best way is to use Antrax that would kill off the ants and stop them coming back.

Whatever you do. Do not stick your wee in ants hole. Seriously.

If you vacuum the ants, and then take the bag out right away, and soak it under water, you get them all. Of course, you then have to waste a vacuum bag.

however, I actually think they get stuck inside the vacuum and die anyways, but I've never vacuumed a whole bunch of them, only like 1-2 at a time.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

just vacuum your room after you've taken them out of the picture.. it would bury them alive muhahahahaha.. wait

My grandma used to place nickels (copper) near possible points of entry which would chase them off.

For me, best fun I had destroying a nest was pouring gasoline in there, then lighting it on fire. We had to step back though as flames where reaching up from between the crevaches of the gardentiles!

lol. I remember when my uncle got a huge red ant hill in his backyard. He doused that sucker with gas and tossed in the match. Man, did that make one heck of a fireball..... but it did work.
