Wow, this is fun :)

edit: slightly better result. I'm on a fiber optical connection, btw. :)

^^^ holy shit how much do you pay a month 0_o ?

I pay about $37/month for my connection (first 3 months were free). I live in an apartment, so it's cheaper because they just wire up the whole building. I think a home connection is like $50-60, not exactly sure.

awesome!!!!!!!!

i envy you. and this is why im getting Verizone fios when it gets to NYC...

HEY! you're from Japan!! The speed machine in terms of internet speed! you don't count...

J/K. how is it over there in terms of technology? i hear its ages ahead of everyone else. true, right?

It's roughly the same, though many times they do get the newer stuff a bit before it comes out in the US. Although, sometimes it's the other way around for example the iphone just came out not too long ago, but that was probably because it needed the iphone 3g version to work on the phone network here. The original iphone was never released here.

Did you try the Tokyo server? I got slightly better speed from there compared to the Yokohama server.

Oh, no wonder they're so high, they're in Japan. Crazy high bandwith over there.

We were about to get FioS a couple of weeks ago, but sadly, it's not available in this area... yet. But when it is...

And my lappy is on wireless, so wired the connection would be better, right?

@ Zucas

WOWOWOWOW nice connection.

FioS?

i am actually geting fios when it gets to the Big Apple.

btw: fastest i got it to go so far:

though it did peak temporarly over 10000 but it went down.

FiOs is already in the Big apple.

DMeisterJ said: FiO is only availible in the NE regions of America. and the speeds are much faster than 13,000 kbps.

My friend (that lives in NYC) has it going at 45-50,000 kbps. For only 150 dollars a month, while I have to pay 70 dollars for time warner which only gives me 15000 kbps tops.

really?!?! i tried to google it, and go on verizon's site, no fios where i live, which is washington heights. upper manhattan for you non-new yorkers.

Try calling them up instead. I know for a fact that New York city (especially Manhattan) has the most FiOs coverage in America, there is a possiblity that there's no Verizon phone lines in your specific area though... (which technically shouldn't matter, but apparently does).

Verizon always advertises FiOs in every Yankees game aswell...

But yea, people that live in Asia (China, Japan, and Korea) have it pretty good in terms of internet speed/costs. decent broadband can be as low as $3-$5 dollars in China, that's even cheaper than dialup in America.

Is that slow or is enough?

I think your upload/download rates are probably enough to get by, but the real kicker is your ping.  Did you choose the recommended test site?
