Forums - Gaming - Is Nintendo unwittingly nailing gaming print mag coffins shut?

http://www.aeropause.com/2008/08/is-nintendo-unwittingly-nailing-gaming-print-mag-coffins-shut/

I hope so! I don't buy/read said magazines anymore because I am tired of v reviewers acting like jerks and ignoring Nintendo just because "is not hardcore" . Is not because I do like Nintendo (I do). When the Playstation 1 was a success I understood why they talked more about it and less about Nintendo. The same when the Gamecube wa sout. But now, Nintendo is the leader and they just ignore them and make fun of them like retards? What the hell?!

In this post, http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/2008/08/23/are-game-reviewers-vulnerable-to-disruption/ a reader sent an email giving some tips to reviewers. I couldn't but agree with all of them.

But that is only possible in a perfec world, right?

It could be cool that game magazines changde their values and became as enjoyable and trustful as before. But I doubt it.

would be interesting to see nongamers reviewing games, I agree, "professional" reviewers will never give a perfect score to a very fun game if it is lacking in graphic department or something.

Castlevania Judgment FC:     1161 - 3389 - 1512

3DS Friend Code:   3480-2746-6289

Wii Friend Code: 4268-9719-1932-3069

^^ Yeah. They ar eso convinced that games are "art" that tends to act snobish

So magazine game reviewers shouldn't be allowed to express their true opinion in a review, which by definition is supposed to be an expression of one's opinion, just because Nintendo is selling more consoles than everyone else. Yep, sounds good to me!

Why don't you just stick with Nintendo Power?

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Printed magazines are good for a laugh and some outdated information. Generally just something to read while taking a dump, and not much else.

I'd rather see something like a panel of 3 people reviewing each game, each person with a different set of tastes and let them actually discuss the game without having to apply a score to it. Something like Siskel and Ebert how they would go back and forth and talk about whatever movie it was and why they did or didn't like whatever they saw.

The backlash at Nintendo in from LOLGAMEJOURNALISTS at a time when they're utterly destroying the competition shows that they're just not adapting and trying to figure out how to look at things in another way.

That sector of gaming will never be popular for the same reason pro gaming never took off--it's populated by insufferable asses who think their opinion actually means something.

I imagine some magazine will come out that gets away from that mentality and will be worth subscribing to, but it will be because it will actually have compelling articles rather than just being 75 pages of pre-release commercials.

Film reviews are failed film makers, Game reviewers are failed game programmers. Who gives a shit really

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

You see that's the problem: those are reviews, not personal opinions. In an arguement no problem, but in a medium that people uses as a gude, they must swallos their hardcore pride and accept the fact that no matter how much they hate X or Y compnay, if a game is good, is good. period.

Personal opinions in "professional" reviews are out.

The Wii may be winning in hardware, but you have to admit that most of the big games coming out are multiplat PC/PS3/360 or exclusive to one of the three, thus they get talked about the most.

I do think that GameInformer in particular can be quite anti-Wii at times, though, which makes little sense seeing as the magazine is supposed to help sales at GameStop...

I would say yes.

When I got my Wii as a gift, the person working at EB managed to convince the person buying it for me to get a subscription to Game Informer, which she did because the guy working there *did* hide the Wii for her against company policy, so she let him get the extra commission from the sale or whatever.

The point is, I got a subscription to Game Informer with my Wii. in the 12 months I got the magazine, there was not one Wii game as the main focus of the cover. Very few of the articles written were about Wii games, and they got the shortest shrift in (p)reviews in terms of pages, as well.

If they aren't even going to *try* to cater to 50% of the market, let them struggle even more for profitability when they are already struggling due to the internet.

Also, it seems to me like PS3/360 owners are more likely to be the people searching for news on the internet, although I have no data to back that up. Wouldn't you think that the more 'casual' (even though i hate that term) userbase of the Wii would be more likely to appreciate a magazine that catered to things they cared about? Wouldn't you think that they would be more likely to learn something new from the magazine in the first place?

Please, PLEASE do NOT feed the trolls.
