Are we sure this information is correct?

Basically, it refers to playing songs from the PS2 games -- with a disc swap. It does not talk about, at least in this place, about BC.

As far as BC being overblown, I was in a Gamestop that just opened on Thursday. They had the original PS3 promo playing. Sony was trumping how the PS3 was the only conosle that had full BC. So it is overblown because Sony pulled it and in the minds of some who have not gotten over it, has blown it.

Plus, while $35 sounds like a lot of money for hardware, how much money will it cost in patches and programming?

Mike from Morgantown

Who was looking forward to buying a PS3 until BC was pulled.

Can't say I'm convinced, seeing as how the 80GB MGS4 bundle has been available since June, even if it has been limited in availability. And of course, there was the Motorstorm bundle with the same MoBo.

What you're probably trying to say is that you want a 60GB MoBo SKU for $299-399 or less, which is not going to happen any time soon, most likely never.

$35 in added production costs is only nothing to the consumer, when it rides on the assumption that the manufacturer eats the cost by charging no more for the feature.

Do your self a favor, and don't buy a PS3.

Wait a year or two when they're a lot cheaper and in all likelihood software emulation will be available.

Come on people, wasn't it obvious that SONY was gonna give it to us eventually???

Why else would they be contiually bringing out non-BC HW and discontinuing the 80 gig U.S BC model?

It should have, considering it costs more to produce. But then most gamers don't care about the production costs assuming it doesn't raise the price of the hardware.

A lot of people seem to be ignoring the fact that the reason why PS2 BC was pushed as a selling bullet initially is entirely because the PS3 library was severely lacking.

Unless you were one of those early adopters who bought several of the typically mediocre initial release titles, odds are you probably used your PS3 to play your old PS2 games until more quality PS3 titles started to show up.

I've always thought it was Sony's plan to phase out h/w BC and bring in s/w BC slowly. But, when they needed to lower the price fast before the holidays, they had to rush the schedule a bit.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

meh sorry but if it isn't full backwards compatibility i don't want it ....i was all set on getting a ps3 this fall but they had to f*** it up

MGS4 bundle says hi... If you're gonna say it's because of price that you dont' want to buy one, it means you never wanted to buy one ever. It's never gonna get any cheaper.

Dont' tell me there's no MGS4 bundles.

you're right it's not the price it's because of there aren't any mgs bundles down here and there never was any

Sweet, this is great news!

If what Mike linked is the real story then it seems like it is not BC at all. BC would mean you could play the PS2 Singstar games and not need to own the PS3 version to make it work.

Starcraft 2 ID: Gnizmo 229

even if PS3 gets software BC, i don't expect it to be better than 360 BC, if it can only play half of the ps2 games it's not good enough for people to get rid of their PS2. It's nice, but it doesn't make that big of a difference.

I don't know why you guys think that SW can adequately emulate the PS2 for the majority of ps2 games, it's simply not going to happen.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

They're relatively hard to find since they were never produced in the same volume as the 40GB. I've only seen them on shelves twice, although they were available through Amazon for weeks, partly due to their rationing (one per address policy).

Since they cost more to manufacture, it really doesn't come as much of a surprise. Less profit at a time when SCE is trying to improve profitability.

Anyway, the window of opportunity was there. What most people really mean is that they want the more expensive hardware BC, but they want to pay less for it. It's a contradiction, but there are even those who won't be satisfied until something is virtually free.

This makes sooooo much sense. Guess SONY wan't ditching B/C afterall.

4 ≈ One

Great news for Ps3 fans. Now Ps2 owners will have extra incentive to get a Ps3 with the software BC.
