I thought PS3 owners didn't care about B/C? Every time I attempted to bring it up as a negative factor it was downplayed, now people are quite excited for it. It reminds me of the Dualshock debacle last year.

And this has what to do with the thread?

Um...no.

It will come but that ISN'T what Reeves is speaking off.

this thread is about B/C on the PS3, I'm adressing previous views of B/C and noting a similarity to similar trends with the Dualshock Controller.

Thats great news. All the more tempting to get a PS3.

End of '08 predictions (made by theprof00): PS3: 20m, 360: 23.5m, wii: 42m

Now Playin':  PS3|Resistance 2, LBP, Uncharted and Fifa 09, PSP| Ratchet and Clank: Size matters, 360| Gears of war 2 and Fallout 3.

So views change.

Maybe all of the constant negative PS2 b/c propaganda from you and the like made everyone realize that their life was worthless without being able to play PlayStation 2 games on their PS3.

You should feel accomplished within yourself, you made the whole lot of PS3 fanboys miss backwards compatibility (sp?).

:P

I care about backwards compatibility a lot.  And it's the reason I own a 60 GB PS3.  And I hope they bring it back in some form.  Because if my PS3 breaks, and they don't/can't fix it, I'm going to be pissed that I will now have to buy 2 consoles to play my games.

Also, I wonder if this one source just got it flat wrong.
I cannot find anyone else reporting that the PS2 Singstar Disks will be playable as separate games. If this were the case, I somehow think it would be being reported elsewhere.

While I don't own a PS3, I would love for this to be true. But I feel that it is too good to be true.

I'm from austria so german is my primary language, and heise.de is probably the best german tech news page.

if i read the news article cited in first post then they explicitly wrote that reeves explained them that they will make singstar ps2 run with software compatibility on ps3 with a firmware update.  The article also mentiones taht reeves said that they might look into doing this for other titles in the future, but there is nothing mentioned about a generic compatibility.

i said allready a few weeks back that they probably will go this way with software compatibility to build a basic solution and focus on making it work with special games (and then sell the games it works with on ps store). Especially the early ps2 games or games that did not really push ps2 hardware to the maximums will be easier to get workign in any software emulation.

I forget, who developed Holy Crap again?

Srsly, this is good news.  Also not so surprising since PS2 sales are tanking fast now.

Wow, I do feel pretty accomplished.

Unfortunately the dropping of B/C combined with the Wii's gradual displacement of the PS2's market has forced sales and support for the PS2 to decline quite starkly in comparison to the golden age the PSOne saw after the PS2's launch. B/C may not matter after all. Of course, in a world were we see aboslutely nothing wrong with patches to fix lazily or hastily developed AAA titles and DLC is par for the course, why would something like B/C matter?
