The Wii has been selling phenomenally. It is inevitable that the Wii will surpass the PS2 as the highest selling system ever.

Keep in mind they haven’t even started releasing different colors. They haven’t needed a single price drop. If sales do start to drop at some point, Nintendo still has some tricks up their sleeves.

Wii is doing extremely well against PS2

PS3 was doing well, even pulling ahead of the PS2 on 2 occasions (I'm assuming last Christmas and the European Launch) now it is falling behind, and needs to have a very good Christmas session

Fuck the DS! Pretty soon, the Psp 3000 will come out and it will end up selling 50 mil at the end of the year, BESTING THE DS! J/K LOL


But, I think the Wii will match it or pass the Ps2. And it deserves it imo. I mean, the only console to make me fell great playing game other than the Wii was the Ps2. (hells yeah!) Thought, I have to be honest, back in 06, i used to trash the Wii on sites like Gamespot, and Ign cause I thought Nintendo was going crazy naming it the "Wii." But, I got past the name and actually played the console. I was both happy and pleased with my purchase. But, I still don't see the hype for the Cube and N64 or the Snes for that matter.

I don't think the wii will outsell the ps2. Right now the ps2 is still selling and by the time every thing is said and done the ps2 might have a install base over 150 million. I just don't think the wii can sell that much just by focusing on the casual market.

 I chose the ps3. I´m brazilian and videogames are too expensive here, so I bougth in a trip I did to the US. I  roamed in the stores trying the plataforms and bought the one I concluded was the most complete. The bluray counted, as a bluray in Brazil will be too expensive. The conection with the psp also atracted me, but I wish I could buy the others, so I could experience their games and gameplay more thouroughly.

And ds & psp are another market. Nobody will get a ds and don´t get another console also if they can afford it. But granted, ds will win the handheld battle. Not that selling 38 million units(psp) count as loss for me, but if we have to put that way...

Maybe, maybe not.

Arguments for maybe:

1) Most obviously, it is selling at a better pace than the PS2,

2) Wii is tapping into a new market. We don't know how big that market is, and how much is left to be tapped.

3) Still hasn't had a price cut (and we all know it could drop to $150 tomorrow without really hurting Nintendo a bit).

4) That third party support is just about to start hitting. If Nintendo has been planning smart, they should be able to keep up a steady supply of solid titles for the next 2-3 years (Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii, Icarus, etc).

Arguments for maybe not:

1) The 360 and PS3 are putting up stronger sales than past second and third place finishers (N64, GCN, XB, DC, Saturn, etc), and at least one of them has seen what Nintendoes and is doing its level best to strike back hard with this current generation.

2) This is the first time that a home console has been released with relatively low-tech. Nintendo may pull the plug after 4-5 years, which will make it hard to topple the 7 year run of the PS2.

3) Again, we don't know how much of that new market is untapped. It may not be sustainable for the whole generation.

4) Those third party games may suck, or gamers may not buy them, and developers may choose to leave the Wii as Shovelware Central.

5) It is debatable how much Nintendo "gets" the core crowd (as seen by their belief that Animal Crossing is a "core" title). And they have a bad habit of leaving their top franchises to rot after their first release of the generation.

Which one of them did IGN award best overall game of E3?

When you have Sony's CEO saying "There's something different under that hood." about the Wii and the engineers saying that what's under that hood is bleeding edge technology geared for different values, it's time to stop argueing the same question.

The Wii's clock speed is less than 800 MGZ. It's graphics cpu isn't much more powerful than the one in the original xbox, and it has no hard drive. Yeah, there's something different under that hood alright. A bunch of outdated tech. Call me when the Wii's price is at $99.99. I do plan on playing Galaxy and Twilight Princess sometime, but I can wait until the console's value and price meet at a more accurate place. And I'm never going to purchase **** like Animal Crossing Wii which from all the videos seems to just be a dumbed down version of the original and the worst music game being released this holiday season. Wii Music makes Lips on the 360 look as good as Guitar Hero and You're in the Movies to be one of the most "core" games ever( when in reality they are the two biggest pieces of shovelware Microsoft has ever planned to put on the market).
