Forums - General - What Film(s) Would You Call A Masterpiece?

Time for another 5
1)The Seventh seal:-Great story, but best remembered(by me,at least) for the most thought provoking monologue ever by Max Von Sydow.

2)The entire Decalogue cycle:- Everyone who likes cinema should watch this. 10 hours of finer work under one name(eg trilogies etc) has never been seen.

3)Pratidwandi(Indian):-Brilliant performances, accurate depiction of the turmoil that was India in the 70s,Direction which compares to Europe's finest

4)Easy Rider:-Can be called a masterpiece just because the earnestness with which it was made. Dennis Hopper is no wizard as a director, but does a pretty damn good job of showing how he feels on reel.

5)Taxi driver:-One of those movies which you like more and more with every re-watch.I laugh myself silly every time i watch the sequence with Martin Scorsese.

Hitler: Rise of Evil. Such an amazing film, it shows the development of Hitler's personality and opinions through amazing acting, writing and direction. At the end of the first part of the film, you really can't help but feel sorry for him (the film is split into two parts).

A beautiful mind
American History X

You kiddin' right?! Transformers and Spiderman?!... This is about masterpieces, not about biggest holywood blockbusters... Transformers is the biggest piece of nonsence there is... I don't know how old you are but i've you like a game based on the amount of action instead of eehrm, all other aspects you should really reconsider what you think is a good movie...

And don't even get me started on Spiderman

He is only 13 remember. Look at the rest of his list

13?! Whooaw, didn't know that! You are forgiven Soriku ^^! I liked Spiderman too when I was 13... Oh snap, that ain't too long ago XD...

Youve been here over a year and didnt know Soriku was 13? Wow.

And Spiderman was good, but Spiderman 2...my my, what a quality film

Jup, srry that I don't know the age of every person on this site... I guess I'm to busy having a real life!

You ain't fooling nobody.

I agree with Dark Knight and Wall*E

American History X is a masterpiece, speaking of which I can't find my copy, I think my old roomates ganked it, maybe not thoguh.

at any rate, continuing..

3. Road to Perdition - One of the most successful recreations of a Comic origin ever. Phenominal soundtrack, Historical referencing, Acting, and art direction. The scenes were so picturesque and the use of lighting was glorious. JFK had great lighting too but it didn't match Road to Perdition. Makeup was great. The story was told in a concise and compelling manner. Great ending. I also personally feel that the changes they elected to make from the comic book were actually for the better (amazing as it may be). This movie is one of the best films ever made.

"Let justice be done though the heavens fall." - Jim Garrison

"Ask not your horse, if ye should ride into battle" - myself

I just bought a Special Edition DVD of a masterpiece called The Manchurian Candidate (The original 1961 version)!
