JRPGs is one of the hardest genres to get as good score in if the title isn't Final Fantasy with a roman numeral and nothing else. Whether FF main games decerve it or not (I think they do).

They dock points for being different, they dock points for being the same.
They dock points for being cartoony, they dock points for not being true to the style of the story.
They dock points if the story veers from the JRPG norm, they dock points for retelling the classic japanese folk tales.

Not surprising.



I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

WoW generally likes RPGs, he just thinks ToS is overrated as the best GC RPG, especially since he likes SoA much more.
I'm not entirely sure if we're on the same page though...

lol, yeah. This review though, was all "This game is sex, but since it'sa jrpg, can't give it over 8.2 as a rule"

I know scores really don't matter...but there are more people out there who look at a final score then read the review. Raichu is right; by how they scored it it should be getting an 8.8-9.0

Well whatever. All I know is I'm getting it and hope that it does very well sales wise. I'm just worried that low scores effect sales sometimes...



GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

@Soriku: I did, and loved it. The thing is the game wasn't mine, so I had to return it and I didn't have enough time to play it properly. I just played the first 3 hours or so. I was to busy playing TLoZ:WW and I missed the chance to play this game.

And I agree 8.2 is a good score.
TOtA (Arguably Tales best title) scored an 8.5 on IGN.

 

Oh snap, on my IGN, TotA actually only got an 8.3, which is almost dead even with ToV!

I'll go ahead and say it, I think ToV could have the potential to be considered the best in the series in a few years time.

It's true. :(

However, luckily we have a community here that realizes stuff that casual gamers don't. :P

So even if it doesn't sell a lot, which it probably won't, we can still set around and talk about how awesome it is, lol. Just like Radiant Dawn....ah Radiant Dawn. The most under-rated game ever? Perhaps. It hurts my soul thinking of the poor fate of such a great game...

 

Anyway, lol, yeah, just from reading the review...well it was glowing. The video review guy obviously had a fantastic time, but I think they felt that it was too much like the old Tales games to give really high scores.

Me, if that review is right, lol, I wouldn't change a THING about the game. It sounds like the best jrpg I've played on a next gen console by triple...and I know there are a lot of LO lovers out there, and I respect them, but for my money, this series and its strengths just play right into my tastes. I love it, and this seems like an amazing new entry in that series.
