So I want to know - who will now "rush out" and pick up a PS3 at the $499 price point?
(of course you aren't counted if you have already bought one!)

For now, people in the US only - although feel free to extrapolate vrs your current (local) price, and answer.

I still wouldn't grab one if the PS3 dropped to $799 locally (currently still $1000AU).

(since most people on this site are "harder core" gamers, price is less of an issue - so if they want it, they will buy one anyway - at any price. This may all be a moot point, after the price cut has been debunked by Sony anyway...)

Not me. I asked 6 people in my card shop (HeroClix players) today if they'd consider it. 5 said no, one said possibly, until I explained the price drop was permanent and not a sale. He then changed his answer to no.

At the moment the UK MRP is £425, but most places are offering them for £399.

Even an equivalent price drop in the UK of around £50 (approx $100), would only bring it to around £349.

I honestly reckon it needs to drop to £299 to make an impact in the UK. Although I will not be buying one until the price is closer to £200 to be honest.

Also by this time they will hopefully have a decent collection of games including MGS4 etc.

I reckon I will have to wait until Xmas 2008 at the earliest before picking one up then.

Shame as I want one...but I am willing to see how the whole marketplace develops with the Wii and 360 as well as the PS3.

I will only buy a console that cost under the € 250 300 max any higher is unacceptable. Its a gamesconsole I realy don't get the trend MS and Sony are trying to pull with multi media blabla. I like gaming for my multimedia I have far supirior hardware. And for asfar the blueray player must make the price of the PS3 acceptable I just want to bring up the great PS2 DVD drive no one uses cause its crap.

Yes I found the Wii expencive It was worth it due the game pack in still expencive.
I never got the vibe nintendo was getting for the low price of the Wii if I remeber corect its the priciest console I ever bought.
Kind of easy cause the only other I remember was the GC at €220 +extra controller.
