I don't see why anyone would buy levels in a game, if you don't like grinding, don't purchase a game that causes you to grind.

If people don't want paint drips, they should watch the paint dry.

Nice post Squilliam, that, believe it or not, would go over some people's heads.

Seriously gentlemen, it must be a slow day. Can't you find some other insignificant factoid to whine about?

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

How pointless is that? The grade shop gives you 10x XP and 2x Gald. Paying for cheats that can be unlocked is lame. One could also download a save file (saving money and time).
Another issue I have is that max level on recent Tales games is 250 (10 levels are easy to get in the beginning and redundant later). Also 300 k gald is no fortune. On Tales of the Abyss you could buy several 100k+ items very early in the game (of course you could only afford them on the 2nd playthrough).

Soriku just doesn't like the fact that people won't have to replay the game 15 times to get everything. ^_^

I'd buy a 10 level up DLC for $4. I dunno how many RPGs I've played in which I got to the last dungeon and the difficulty got so steep all of a sudden that I either had to grind for 5 hours straight or just quit. I'd pay $4 to prevent that if the game was good enough.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

i dont see anything wrong with this. its not even extra content or anything, so why are people getting upset... if you dont find this appealing, then dont get it...you arent missing out on anything.

Sorry, i should have added a /sarcasm or a to my post.

The point is that if a game is not fun, you just should not play it. If you do not enjoy leveling up you characters in a JRPG, play a different game.

I agree. ^_^

However I do recognize that some parts are more fun than others for different people.

Words - I will have to agree with you 100%.

I think this will benifit the older audience that still loves JRPGs but does not still have the time to put into them like they use to. Some people do not have the time to grind. This type of option helps keep from alienating them from playing Tales.

Though another tactic that could have been used would to have different levels of difficulty offered at the beginning of the game. Say... Normal and Easy. (Easy being the version where things cost less and more exp is acheived after each battle.)

But Bandai is a company that wants to earn as many $$ as possible. I can't complain though. The more $$ they make off of a game the more $$ they will invest in making more games.

Yeah... i mean there isn't even a VS mode or anything...

They are just applying popular MMO tactics to a game without hurting the effective fanbase.   Far better then downloadable content of other sorts.

I want to know WHY this is a bad thing. Tell me. Explain as if I were a 2 year old.

Oh widdle Zenfoldie. Ok now sit down widdle guy and wisten to a big guy talk. Scwamco they don't do nice things. They make pee pull like Onyx a big guy pay wots of money. That makes Onyx sad. You undoostand now widdle Zenny?

Now if I were talking to a Zen that isn't a 2 year old. Frankly this game doesn't matter. I'm more upset with Namco's general attitude towards DLC, which is nickle and diming customers for everything. Ace Combat 6 and it's $100 of DLC just irks me. This is not very bad at all, but it's hard to seperate this DLC from the other nickle and diming they do which probably should be either cheaper, free, or on the disc. If SCIV has DLC from day one that could have fit on the disc, like music and clothing, then it probably should have been on the disc in the first place. Namco sacrifices game features they could have included on the disc fo the benefit of getting a few dollars here and there out of customers.

I said a 2 year old, not a dog.

lol, anyway, what you're talking about is something entirely different than buying levels and gold in a rpg. You're talking about buying crap that should have been in the game, which yes, sucks. However, this particular thing isn't bad. It's actually good, and other games should impliment it.

As long as they're not selling crap that should have been on the disc, it's nothing but positive, and allows people to play the game like they want to. If someone doesn't feel like grinding and just wants to enjoy the story, then boom, they don't have to. Great, great thing, and excellent idea.

Odin Sphere would have been a game that I woulda paid 5 bucks a character to max my hp, just so I wouldn't have to feed myself the little grapes and crap. It woulda made the game better. I have plenty cash. What I don't have, is patience.

You're misunderstanding me. I don't think it's a bad thing at all. What I think is it's hard for people to seperate this good DLC from Namco's shitty DLC because of how notorious they are as a publisher for nickle and diming everyone with every game they release over the 360.

Ugh I hope this doesn't get a trend.

In the future we will then get games where the Ultima weapon cost 50 Million Gold and that amount of money you can only get if you defeated 5.000 of the strongest enemies or take you around 200 hours...But hey for 1.000 Ms points you get 50 Million Gold ;.... A weapon you need to defeat the final boss of the game because he is so hard!!!...  Ha, I can see the comments of the weapon seller already....'Ha, you have the gold you must have god aid from our lord Xbl....or are you a person with no life'?

Well, some RPGs are SO BORING in the end, forcing you to level up A LOT, and that's annoying... so I see Namco making a good money on this =P
