Forums - Nintendo - The Sonic Unleashed Wii Screens Bet Resolved.

Sonic unleashed looks pretty cool, but I've only seen still screenshots, apparently this game has a bad framerate when in motion, that true?

How do you pay for games on Steam?

With money.

Then naznatips is out of luck, I don't have any. Here in Austria we still pay for goods by exchanging animals, clothes etc.

...and kangaroo hats...

this is either cultural ignorance or comedic genious

Hate to ruin a joke, but yes I know Austria does not equal Australia.

There is still one major problem though: my Wii Shop boycott is still in full force, so I guess you are out of luck, naznatips.

Thankfully, I found a beautiful workaround for you.  There is this great thing called Steam, where you can gift games quite easily.  I've been eyeing the artistic game Eternity's Child on it for some time, but never got around to buying it.  There are no region issues on there, and the game is $5 (no tax).

It's right here Rol.

Do NOT, i repeat do NOT buy this game.

I did and it's a mess, completely broken.

I think those are later and touched up PS360 screens and early shitty Wii screens. I wasn't betting that the finished Wii game will eventually look better than the finished PS360 version. I was betting that the Wii game will look better than those PS360 screens, because I figured they were early and shitty and would be improved drastically.

The bet was basically a reaction to the fact that it said Nintendo in the corner, and everybody went "Whoa, that's waaaaaaaaay too shitty to be on the Wii LOL," because it's not. Those pix are damn close enough, and I still think the Wii game will be improved and can pull this off. If it fails, it's Sega's fault for giving us crap, and my problem was believing in Sega.

But I want to believe in Sega, because Sonic and the Secret Rings was possibly the best looking Wii game when it came out, and I expect more of the same!

That said, .... shit, the judge is high on Nyquil. I call for a mistrial until the judge is sober and/or new screens come out and prove me right! Whether or not I lose the bet, I'll never stop believing!

Just because I like the drama, I resized all four images to 320x180:

The difference isn't as striking when the images are all the same size.

I bet if you randomized those and showed them to someone who hadn't been following this game that only the picture with the circle shadow would stand out as being for the Wii and even that is odd because one of the other Wii picture has a real shadow which makes me doubt the integrity of all of these screens.  Sega has been playing switcharoo far too much with this game's information.

I also think Naz has twisted the terms of the bet a bit to his favor.  Expecting SD alone to "match" or exceed HD is stupid.  You will notice differences due simply to resolution at the very least.  Even taking resolution differences into consideration, at what point do you say the Wii version is close enough anyway?

In all honesty, the Wii screens look very good and a fair bit better than I would have expected actually.  And based on the fact that one Wii picture has a circle shadow and one doesn't, I think it's too unclear what's what to make a fair judgement right now.  At very least I'd be waiting for some gameplay trailers to make that call.

Good thing I didn't take part in this silly bet.

If somebody wants... send me games too... I will give it to a poor kid... ME...

What you wanted to bet isn't what you acutally bet, and our judge says it looks worse in every comparable way.  Time to pay up.

Thanks superchunk for Mega Man!  I've been having a blast with it.  Beat Cutman this morning before I went to work.  It's really a great game.

For the record, the Wii version looks great.  Absolutely great, but I'm not going to "call it a tie" when it clearly is not the same graphical quality as the PS360 version.  Of course it's not, and that was the whole point of this bet.  Stop saying all PS360 screens are Wii screens please. It annoys me both as a Wii fan and a gamer in general.
