The amount of win in Mass Effect is unrivaled by any game so far this gen. It may not have the most sales, but it is the best. Portal comes close, but loses in the end due to its length.

Ninjabread Man is clearly the winner. Beyond that...

I think its dependant on what you're saying qualifies as "the greatest new franchise". Gears is certainly high on the unit count, and the PixelJunk games are pretty high on the "innovation". Uncharted was great and has great potential for future development, Mass Effect same thing...
