Forums - Gaming - Gears 2 vs. Resistance 2 sales analysis

Wait. I thought analysis is done on existing samples. As in, sales numbers. As in, wait till they are released.

I have never played Gears of War, but I have heard great things about it. I would be shocked if it didn't sell 5 million. I think it will easily sell 6 million. I loved Resistance and I think it will ultimately sell 4 million. Both franchises will be critical successes 90+ games.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

This is the second thread that has gotten Marcus Fenix's name wrong.

Gears 2 will outsell Resistance 2 probably by a large margin...

It is mostly a North American "must-have" hard core type of game, and in North America, The 360 install base is double Sony's. Twice as many customers with a title targeted at the customer base will mean a lot more sales. In Japan and Others, I expect Gears 2 and Resistance 2 to be relatively the same, but Gears 2 will still lead... Why? FPS do excellent on 360. Look at sales for games like Ranbow Six Vegas 2, Battlefield, etc. 360 Sales are almost double that of PS3 worldwide. Really, this isn't a fair comparison if you think about it.

I guess you are a bit biased in here :(

It is clear that Gears of War 2 sells more than Resistance 2, becasue Gears 2 is more like Halo 3 for MS but for '08 this time.

I think Resistance 2 will sell around 4 million lifetime, while Gears of War 2 would easily pass a 6 million mark.

i'm a ps3 owner mate. i'm basing my views on facts, not due to loyalty to consoles (which i think is useless). the facts are that Gears 1 was just simply better than Resistance 1, it has a higher fanbase, and the 360 has a higher base than the ps3.

You only listed two facts in your original post. The rest was a matter of opinion. Anyways, I do agree that Gears 2 will outsell Resistance 2, but I really could not care less. Both of them will sell well enough to garner sequels (if the storylines provide for sequels, that is) and I like them both, so either way...I win.
