(i know that there have been dozens of threads about this and i only want to share my opinion coz i'm bored :P)

First off, i'm a ps3 owner and my brother who lives next door owns a 360, which he guards with his life, so i've only got to play Gears of War on it, and i was mighty impressed enough to fork over some dough for him to let me play it. i rented Resistance Fall of Man quite recently, and i was impressed as well enough to buy it for myself.

With the upcoming releases of the two sequels on the same week, i couldn't help but be intrigued by how they would sell in comparison to each other based on the performance of their predecessors, since that's the only thing we can talk about with relative accuracy. i'll list here some things that will probably determine which game will end up selling more. here's what i got so far:

1. Marcus Felix is much more interesting than Nathan Hale. he has quite the amount of dialogue available to him as compared to Nathan who hardly says a word, and looks far more bad ass.

2. The story of Resistance feels a lot more epic and grand. Gears often feels like you're shooting these things for a reason that is rather estranged.

3. Gears has better graphics and sound, and gives that feeling of genuine danger because of all these epic monsters available for slaying. Resistance looks and sounds pretty dated in comparison, and playing through was rather bland because the enemies were bland.

4. Gears outsold Resistance by a hefty margin (over 2m), and therefore has a larger fanbase.

5. the 360 has a higher install base than the ps3 and a much higher tie ratio.

While i think Resistance's story was better than Gears (which is also subject to opinion), everything else seems to point in the direction of Gears. So i think Gears 2 will outsell Resistance 2.

Yeah, I'll be incredibly surprised if Resistance 2 manages to outshine Gears 2, but they both look like awesome games and I hope both see atleast 4m+ lifetime sales.

It is clear that Gears of War 2 sells more than Resistance 2, becasue Gears 2 is more like Halo 3 for MS but for '08 this time.

I think Resistance 2 will sell around 4 million lifetime, while Gears of War 2 would easily pass a 6 million mark.

i'm a ps3 owner mate. i'm basing my views on facts, not due to loyalty to consoles (which i think is useless). the facts are that Gears 1 was just simply better than Resistance 1, it has a higher fanbase, and the 360 has a higher base than the ps3.

I think that it is a given that Gears 2 will sell more than Resistance 2, but i think this time around Resistance 2 will do a hell of a lot better than the original as it now has Global recognition and also you can't go to many mulit-plat sites these days without seeing at least one mention of the game!

It is a good time to be a gamer, even if there are Recessions looming on both sides of the Atlantic lol

I find it amazing you can make a sales analysis without any data given yet. What you are doing here is a comparison based mostly on the merits of previous games.

I know you have a PS3, the PSN ID and 'playing online' in your sig shows that easily.

What I meant is that your look is a bit biased toward Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2. Gears of War definitely looks better than Resistance, and plays better. For me, Resistance was like an enhanced PS2 game, nothing spectacular about the title at all, Gears of War is a much better game in nearly all aspects.

The problem, however, is that many people who played both games would say Resistance is a better game, and seeing that Resistance 2 has enhanced more compared to Gear of War 2 to the first Gears of War, is simply making more mixed opinion this time around.

Whatever the case is, I personally am looking forawrd to Gears of War 2 more than Resistance 2, the first Resistance was preety much meh, maybe it was because I had an SDTV when I played the game for the first time, but I don't think this changes the fact Resistance had nothing of a next gen element, only thing good about the game was the release time of the game, it was the only launch title on PS3 worth owning in my opinion.

Any sales analysis that doesn't begin with the statement "Gears 2 will smash Resistance 2" just isn't taking things seriously.
