Forums - Microsoft - Why Xbox Live gaming should be free for all (Cnet Article)

If people like myself don't mind paying the money then why should they drop the fee? Businesses are in it to make money and dropping the live fee isnt going to encourage enough ppl to buy more online multiplayer games which is the only way they could make up the difference of dropping the fee. Remember everything including buying arcade games can be done on a silver account so to make up the difference of making XBL free, MS would need to sell a much larger amount of software. Seeing as they alrdy sell a bunch I doubt that it would happen. And by a large amount of software, I mean an unachievable amount.

Microsoft is making money. It doesn't matter if they're first, second, or third. XBL=Microsoft profits. As long as there are people like me dumb enough to pay $50 a year, Live will never be free.

How many more 360's will sell if Live was free? Enough to offset Live's profits? I doubt it.

Free is nice.

PS. PSN is not better than xbox live. PSN has more holes than swiss cheese. Sony makes voice chat and working leaderboards for one game and then they announce "We got voice chat". Sure you do...then how come Mortal Kombat 2 doesn't have either?

It would be nice if they at least reduced the price...not saying its too expensive but a better deal would be more attractive to many customers...

I have no problem with shelling out $50 for Live. I know very well that Microsoft needs to make extra money from somewhere. Sony may give free online, but they make extra money off of the PSP and the PS2. I pay for quality.
