I just thought of something...
The DS sold pretty well it's first year and a half to two years on the market, but shortly after that 2-year mark, it's sales suddenly skyrocketed and have hardly slowed down at all ever since. That "just after 2 years" mark was when the massive influx of quality 3rd party titles started flooding in. Gamers and more non-gamers started snatching it up more than ever.
The Wii's quality 3rd party drought will be vanishing around the same period: Just after 2 years on the market (2009). This is also when Nintendo believes they'll finally be able to match supply to demand. I wonder, could the same trend hit the Wii? Could it's sales actually end up skyrocketing for a year or two the way the DS did after it's 2-year mark when the massive flood of better quality 3rd party titles hit?
I mean, The Conduit, MadWorld, HotD:Overkill, Castlevania Judgement, Cursed Mountain, Deadly Creatures, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Spyborgs, KORE, Sonic Unleashed/Black Knight, Star Wars Battlefront III, unnamed 1:1 Star Wars title, Overlord, and several other titles may finally be more than enough to entice hardcore gamers the way mid-generation DS games like Contra 4, Ninja Gaiden, Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest, Call of Duty 4, Dementium, etc. finally convinced many gamers to pick up the DS.
It's going to be interesting to say the least. Hopefully, many of the more asinine "I only look for Marion, Pokemon, Zelda, Metroid" gamers will actually open their wallets to The Conduit, MadWorld and other higher quality 3rd party Wii offerings.
