Forums - Sony - PS3 on the rise. Doomsayers eat crow.

@ Soleron

since it isn't consistently selling more that the Xbox 360 so will never pass it in total sales

IMO it's far too early to come to conclusions, till the upcoming holiday season this will only be the PS3's second year on the market (or less for most of the world). Maybe you underestimate the effect a slimline PS3 or other factors in the future could have.

Most analysts predict the 360 to end a distant third this generation.

Then again, most (if not nearly all) analysts predicted the Wii to be in Nader land, too.  Unless they've learned from their massive mistake, I wouldn't rely on them.

Coke>Pepsi, but I prefer water.

To lavish praise upon this title, the assumption of a common plateau between player and game must be made.  I won't open my unworthy mouth.

Many people were saying and possibly hoping the PS3 would be the next Dreamcast. They revised their definition of "doomed" to not beating the Wii.

Whether the Wii creams the PS3 and 360, I still haven't found a compelling reason for me to personally buy a Wii (I did once and sold it). I was basically using it for Brawl and GameCube games, and I already have a GameCube and love it.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

+1, unlike with consoles, people don't feel the need to pass judgement on you by because of which beverage you choose to drink.

Water is so mainstream really, its the typical blue ocean strategy. So I can see why theres more water drunk this beverage generation than either Pepsi or Coke.

So Lets put that into an anology : Water is to Pepsi/Coke as Wii is to Xbox360/PS3

I hate to break it to everyone, but when did he mention the Wii in his article? If you have anything to say about the Wii owning the PS3 then go to the Nintendo discussion and say all you want, instead of posting balderdash here.

In order for crow to be doled out. The Wii would have "stop selling" like PS3 fanboys have been foolishly saying since it took off and PS3 would have to surpass it. Neither is the case and the PS3 has quite a ways to go to even catch the 360.

Let me ask you something, were in his "rant" does it say anything about the wii?

Nowhere. It doesn't have to. It's the internet LOL.

Just kiss the tip.

The PS3 Fanboy To Reality Dictionary has this entry for Rise:

"Level to slight fall over a non-holiday seven month period and failing to beat Xbox 360 consistently, while not even threatening the Wii's dominance."

Hmm ,this graphic cant be right,as the PS3 has won each single week since september last year against the 360 and here the 360 wins the last weeks of July and early August. In July NPD data showed PS3 above ,it sold more in Europe and the same in Japan so the 360 cant have won a single week.

So water (Wii) is like the constituent goodness of nourishing gaming wheras Pepsi/Coke are different, they leave you with a dry mouth and that makes you seek more and more of it, on top of this it costs more to develop.

I hear Coca Cola is trying to break into the casual water market with its own brand of bottled water, I don't know if its being successful but I hear that hardcore Coke drinkers don't like it. They want more/cheaper flavours of coke.

Furthermore, Nintendo is trying out different varieties of mildly flavoured water, some consider it to be a sellout of the purity of wholesome gaming (water)

+10 lol, Great anology squillam

The PS3 cant beat the Wii ,they go for different publics and the Wii has way more demographics to call upon.Playstation have a fourteeen-thirty something crowd behind while Wii can be sold to many more people.Theres also the price issue, the PS3 even with the Playstation brand behind cant sell the same amounts as the Wii at 399-499 dollars as right now.

With the all-demographics and mass-market price from the word go the Wii has assured them the win.Over the overall hardware numbers at least, later we will see if all those senior players and casual gamers will keep spending in the machine once they have their minigames/sports/social/reflexes loot or if they will be happy with that.I have seen many examples of the later.

Given the time the PS3 at 250 or when it hits 199 it can sell as good as the Wii ,but then it will be too late to catch up.

@Blue Strife: When PS3 hits 199, Wii is still at 250 and still beats PS3 in sales. Wii also has awesome library by then, PS3 having its first party support and scraps.
All the "casuals" and "seniors" will keep on buying games as long as there's games that interest them. Just like the "hardcore" keep buying Wiis and games for it. It's just as simple as that.
