Blimey. SCEA’s done some power-brokering and, according to this post on the US PS Blog, has got Konami, EA and Activision to agree to let guitars, drums and the like work across each other’s rhythm action games.

Says SCEA’s Michael Shorrock:

For the past several months, we have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility.

For the most part, this means that the titles with musical peripherals will work with the other’s software. A few specific examples include: Guitar Hero: World Tour’s guitars and drums will work with Rock Band 2 and Konami’s Rock Revolution software.

And yes, you guessed it, Rock Band 2’s guitar and drum set will work with Guitar Hero: World Tour and with Rock Revolution.

Conversely, Rock Revolution’s drum set will work with both Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2.

In addition, Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 will both support the SingStar microphones.

Seems like a good move on Sony's part.

I still don't know why EA/Harmonix and Activision haven't worked this out already. I mean, they could both sell a lot more software if they did this.

I'm not sure if the Rock Band guitar works with GH II and III though.

 



Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

I can guarantee that it does with guitar hero 3 as I have it and rockband guitar is used as a 2nd player bass a lot. Never tried 2...

Man...now you got me so curious. As I have 4 guitars at home (3 guitar hero, 1 rockband) I must test this again... I am not a fan of the rockband guitar so I dont use it very often since it doesnt have the "click" when you're struming. But I clearly remember using the rockband guitar as a 2nd intrument in guitar hero 3...
