I could be wrong but I suspect that the Revoultion -> Evolution pattern we have seen in home consoles is actually a result of another patern ... the cycle of expansionist growth vs. organic growth:
With the NES, Nintendo started out by expanding (from nothing) into the demographic of children and young teenagers and they steadily grew within this market until they had fully saturated it by the end of the SNES generation, Sony (and other competitors) noticed that there was a lot of older teens and young adults who also played videogames and their needs were not being met by Nintendo at the time; they focused on cinematic games and captured this market and they grew the market to its saturation point by the end of the PS2's generation. The Wii is just an expression of Nintendo noticing that there were a lot of gamers whos needs were not being met by Sony or Microsoft ... they will (likely) focus on expanding this market and hit a saturation point in 2016 or so.
This generation Nintendo made a mistake. If they only knew what their Wii has become today. They would have made their console a lot stronger. Because right now they are seeing all big third party games on PS360. The Wii could really dominate this generation. Unfortunately Nintendo isn't giving core gamers their needs. That's why the market share is 50-50. PS360 - Wii. It could have been 20-80.
I assume next generation Nintendo will attract more core gamers. Their aim should be that all third party developers make games for the new console. High-end system with advanced motion controls.
Nintendo always had a high end system why not next generation?
HD is stupid. It makes games cost twice as much as they do for the wii. If the Wii Too gets HD graphics it will ruin gaming.
Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
Acolyte of Disruption
@Showertea Miyamoto already confirmed the next Wii will output in HD. Also by then developement costs would probably be as cheap as they are now for a Wii game to develop an HD game.

No, its actually good. Then Nintendo would be the perfect console for almost everyone. Besides technology keeps on advancing.

Even if they did do the same thing again, why would it be weaker than the PS3? The Wii is significantly more poweful than the original xbox/Gamecube so why would the next console be weaker?

They sure as hell fooled me. I see a difference but not a SIGNIFICANT one, heck farcry didn't even look better than the xbox version. Metroid hardly looked better than the GC version and same goes for SSBB.

Compare and Contrast this two...

as for cpu, at much they will do its to put more cores in it.
but for gpu is where i think they are going to change more.
thats for sony and xbox
but nintendo will have to invest heavily on hardware next gen... probably get blu ray too or made it own format that will like be more expensive.
it will probably cpu wise it won't be so much powerful than ps3, maybe the graphic card will be better but that about it.
i'm hoping they impress me though and release something with more than ps3 graphics.

Why would Nintendo include a Blu ray player? They've shown no interest in going into the movie business at all and they've never put a movie platform on any of their consoles ever. |
