Forums - Microsoft - Too Human Combat: Too Awesome

I'm quite intrigued for Too Human, but I'm really hoping that most of the videos I've seen are just small parts of the combat, as every video so far just shows 3 things: zoom over to a guy, hit him in to the air, knock him back down.

That would really get boring after 2 minutes.

That is why it is comparable to Diablo 1/2.  You just click(in this case, twist the stick in the enemies direction) on an enemy and the game does the rest.  With some special powers thrown in for good measure.  If you are fine with Diablo combat, you will be fine with the combat in this game.

Wow, some of the comments from the defenders of this game are just beyond me. You guys are the kind of people who make it even worse when a game flops, because you refuse to acknowledge that there is anything bad about the game.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I have never said the game has not had flaws.  I have played the demo and the camera is not good, and there are some frame rate issues.  But I enjoy the gameplay and loot gathering aspect of the game.  The rpg aspects are nice too.  The combat is enjoyable as well.  Having played the demo, I will get the game.  Having played the demo, I can say I do not care if the game flops or not.  Good movies flop all the time.

As for comparing it to diablo, Diablo isn't tring to be 3 different genres at once like too human is attempting to do, that is my problem with the game. This is definatly not a first day buy for me its a gamefly rent if nothing else is better to play which I don't see happening for awhile. This game Will fail not because of its gameplay mechanics but because they took out 4 play online multi-player reduced it down to 2 and took out 2 player offline multi-player. Diablo 1 and 2 were hug successes that have 8 player online multi-player on the PC 2 player on a console online just doesn't cut it in todays loot-em up standards. Hellgate london couldn't replicate Diablo's success and most the devs on the game made diablo 1 and 2.

all in all the sales and review scores wont be there for too human.

You do know that combat is only one part of the game right?....

Yes, there are many combos, and different weapons give different combos. There are also Special attacks, finishers, button sequences, and gun x sword combos, among other things. So...yeah. The guy only used one weapon.

@akuma: Who are you talking about? I haven't seen anyone who thinks this game is perfect. is it because we don't think its terrible that we apparently think its perfect? There is a grey area too.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

My two words to describe Too Human's combat so far is clunky and robotic.
Not bad, not good, but definitely looks and feel clunky and robotic....

Makes me wonder where Dennis Dyack is going with this game's combat mechanics. It's not DMC, it's not Diablo, it's not Phantasy Star, but has little bit of everything... with a clunky and robotic feel to it.

Thats exactly what i thought until I figured out I was doing it wrong. Once you actually figure out the controls its much more smooth like the video.

When i said that I believed that the combat looked clunky and robotic, i was referring to that video.

Ah. Then I can honestly say i have no clue what you are talking about.

Look at other action games or even RPGs. IU, SO, DMC, GOW, NG, etc and compare. Heck even Jet Li's PS2/xbox game (which had stick action controls) looks more fluid than this. That's what I'm talking about. The animations are all chopped up and unpolished, especially when the main character is trying to combo and sliding around the map. I'm not going to say that the combat is poorly done since the reason why it looks like this is because Dyack said the stick actions and sliding is meant to make grinding a more effortless task, which is why i question the entire premise and goal of the game instead.

Regardless, unlike what Jaggedsac and you constantly imply. TooHuman IS an action game and CAN/WILL be compared to others, espeically since SiliconKnights insist that combat and combos are the biggest factor in TooHuman to begin with. This game has always been an attempt at a console dungeon crawler with added "style", it is what is, and if this attempt fails, then there's no excuse.

Sure. I can compare Ape Escape 3 and God of War too, since they are both action games too. Thats about what we're doing here. As for the stick mapping for level grinding, I want the link. the animations look extremely polished. Twitchy, but very, very polished.

P.S. The Mass Affection comic is awesome.

God, you're really stretching it with the Ape escape to try to defend your point huh? Is Ape Escape 3 a hack and slash? No. Does Ape Escape 3 have a combo system? No. Is Ape Escape a adventure/platformer game? Yes. Come up with better excuse examples nexttime. If you can't see the similarities between hackNslashs and TooHuman, you're just plan deluded. The comments made about Dyack and his decisions to map the actions into the analog stick for ease of grinding is on ANY of the 1upyours.com podcast with Dennis involved. But that's besides the point, since I actually think stick mapping is the way to go for console dungeon crawlers such as TooHuman to begin with. As for the animations, they look very UNpolished, look closer, it's a bunch of reused/cycled animations and alot of the times interupt each other midway. Have you ever seen the way the main character shoots his guns? The way the guy "slides" around the air without moving any part of his body except for his arms? Stop trying to defend the negatives of the game.

P.S. Yes it is.

@Bingoo: You just made the best excuse. TooHuman's combat looks clunky and robotic because there are robots involved in the game. There you have it folks. So in the future, MGS's cybord ninjas and Geth stalkers should all move with much less finese. And what do you mean by try it? Do you have the game already? or are you saying that I haven't played the demo?

@akuma actually it's not as bad as

1)Everyone has not even played a finished version of it complaining already about it
2)People who do not even own a 360 complaining about it
3)People who had no plans on buying it originally complaining about it
4)People going gaga over 1 review from game informer

That's all people do these days is complain about stuff , and you can't have a discussion about a game without a thread getting crapped in. you would think crapping in the first 144 threads about a game would be enough

what did game informer review so much earleir than everyone else?

So if Blizzard would have put a counter for the number of consecutive hits in Diablo, it would have put it in the same genre as GoW, DMC, and NG??  Very interesting.

GoW is a Diablo clone confirmed.
