Are you saying that large comrporations always make the right decisions?
So the PS3 ads with the baby, the truck, and the penis thumb were the best possible ads produced, since Sony paid for them. I mean if there were any other better advertising agencies, who could have made a good ad, Sony woulda went with them, right?

Remind me again what NPD does?

Yes thats exactly what im saying, did I have a typo? |
Its "I'm", not Im. Whatever is one word, and PS in ps3 should be capitalized. Other then that, looks good.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.
Wait, I thought NPD uses USA only while VGChartz does USA and Canada and all that..............so that's probably why numbers are higher right?
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

They pay companies huge amounts of money to get their retail data, which they then use to generate loads of statistics they can then sell to interested companies..... now who would have guessed THAT?

Loads of statistical estimates, right?

You cannot estimate statistics. Since no company has the data from every existing shop, one always has to scale what one has to 100%. How you do that depends on many factors (I could quite precisely estimate Swiss data to high precision just by having the data from all the 5 Mediamarkt shops. Those 5 shops happen to contribute about 50% to the data and the remaining 100 shops add in a linear pattern to the end result..) Given that NPD, for example, has 60% of the data (and have historical data from >60% shops), that scaling may lead to a confidence level of 5% in their case.
Many people here bicker that "NPD does not have Walmart data" - so what? I'm pretty sure that a large company like NPD has the means to get close to some of that data (after all, we know that WM employees are so highly paid that none of the employees would give out some data occasionally..). Maybe they even get the direct shipment data from Sony/MS/Ninty themselves to WM in order to improve their scaling formulas. Who knows the contents of the contracts between those companies or what steps NPD takes to get to the missing data? MS/Sony/Ninty are still subscribing to NPD, so their do not seem to stray off too far from the truth.
(And as I have noted in another thread, in EU/other VGC slightly overtracks PS3 and undertracks XBox360, and overtracks XBox360 in NA (the simple fact is that both consoles offer essentially the same things to the public and therefore sell at very similar rates. Forget about that silly "this is Sony/MS country". But in the end we are talking about 1-2% numbers that are off, so who really cares...)
There are many many many companies who rely on NPD data as it has shown itself to be the best source of sales data with extrapolation models that work. In comparison, how many of those companies have chosen to switch to VG?
With results that are wildly off everymonth VG is not reliable. Lowering or Upping your guess the next month to try and bring your overall results inline with NPD does not show equiv tracking but merely defensive manouvering to try and remain relevant.
BTW, the fact that you KNOW about those SONY ads means they got your mind share. Ta da.

this is the m,ost important factor: ww totals are accurate...if NPD is right and x360 is overtracked in US then we have to conclude that VGC is undertracking x360 in EU/others
