Take a look at the post at the top of this page. The last two VGC monthly estimates have been the exception, not the rule.

Does VG Chartz not often make adjustments to their Numbers after they have time to evaluate the NPD results? If so then the numbers you posted appear to be close to NPD results post adjustments? Correct me if I'm wrong.

The numbers in my table are each month's VGC estimates BEFORE any post-NPD adjustments.

Also, as bdbdbd said, welcome!

Wrong. Well, half-wrong. Here are the monthly VGC and NPD estimates for 2008, so far:

Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Tot
VGC Wii 294 505 594 685 645 720 520 3963
NPD Wii 274 432 721 714 675 666 555 4037
Difference 20 73 -127 -29 -30 54 -35 -74
Percent 7% 17% -18% -4% -4% 8% -6% -2%
VGC PS3 182 305 318 330 178 332 180 1825
NPD PS3 269 281 257 187 209 405 225 1833
Difference -87 24 61 143 -31 -73 -45 -8
Percent -32% 9% 24% 76% -15% -18% -20% 0%
VGC 360 258 320 319 279 192 262 310 1940
NPD 360 230 255 262 188 187 220 205 1547
Difference 28 65 57 91 5 42 105 393
Percent 12% 25% 22% 48% 3% 19% 51% 25%

See now if people would come in and complain by doing this type of homework then I would listen to them.  You said this doesn't include adjustments so I don't know if PS3/Wii/360 have been adjusted up or down relative to this figure.

But one thing remains clear by this if no adjustements.  THE PS3 NUMBERS are correct overall so no adjustment there so you guys can settle down.  Now 360 on the other hand looks to need to be dropped down.

And where was all the bitching and moaning in April when VG had PS3 75% higher than NPD.  I don't recall a huge outbreak of complaints and stuff.  You guys really do just follow whichever is more favorable to your console that month.

Yep of course we need an adjustement.
The 360 needs to go down by 200k to 300k in North America... and that probably wouldn't even cover all the overtracking that console has on this site.

Adjusting the number would make NPD > VGChartz. The numbers are fine as they are and the quarterly shipment numbers prove it.

Yes we do.
Im for what ever makes the gap between the ps3 and 360 smaller.

So, are you saying that accuracy isn't important, just making the PS3 look better?  Okay...

Here are the full ltd numbers for npd compared to vgchartz:

Wow... that's fairly close for PS3.  I guess VGChartz tracks the PS3 VERY accurately.

Which large corporations pay for NPD data? Which ones pay for VG Chartz data?

Now question yourself...do large corporations just throw their money out the window for inaccurate data or would they move to a more accurate source if it existed?

this site just gueses the numbers anyway. the numbers on this site should not really be taken to serisouly. even though the numbers can be accurate some weeks, other weeks they can be way way way of. trust me.
