Forums - Sony - Burnout Paradise Downloadable Via PSN. Ironic?

The guys at Criterion love the PS3. Their most recent game, Burnout Paradise was developed first on PS3, and has met a number of free updates that continue to expand the change the gameplay experience. EA has just announced that Burnout Paradise will also be available as a downloadable game from the PS Store this Fall with the standard MSRP of $30. The downloadable version of Burnout Paradise will include all the updates released so far, and will hopefully include Trophies by the time of this digital re-release.

Fiona Sperry, Studio Manager for Criterion Games, said, "Our mission at Criterion is to provide the most entertaining gaming service possible. In order to do that, it's key that we have the ability to deliver content to players in ways that work for them - through quick and easy download or via traditional bricks and mortar. For us, the fun is in playing the game with friends and constantly discovering new surprises in the world. Download packs with meaningful new gameplay are the perfect way for us to keep entertaining fans and keep them playing, even months after launch."

I find it ironic that while Microsoft is boasting about how downloadble content is the future of the industry and that Sony is the only one actually usng it.

I'm sure there'll be a witty comment about the 360's Arcade/Core SKU and then a response about the 20/60/120gig to follow.

Cool update though with Burnout Paradise. Isn't this new content free? If so, great continued support for the game though I couldn't really get into it myself. I usually get bored of those kinds of games pretty quickly, though smashing into people in multiplayer is pretty fun.

No It's talking about how the whole game is downloadable through PSN. Not just the new content.

Burnout Paradise, rated E10+ by the ESRB and 3+ by PEGI, is currently available worldwide on PS3 and Xbox 360, and will be available for download on PSN.

Sony is the only one doing something about it? That's funny because as I recall Micrsoft had Xbox Live up and running a year before the PS3 came out. Microsoft also keeps a steadier stream of games coming on XBox Live than Sony does on PSN. It's funny how you say this in the middle of Summer of Arcade, which is Microsoft's big XBLA marketing push. Five weeks of five of the biggest XBLA releases yet. While Sony lazely puts together a pathetic package of PSOne classics, Microsoft gives gamers the Xbox Originals they actually want to buy. Then again, it's funny that Sony is getting credit for a move done by a third party developer and publisher. Maybe you hadn't heard but Burnout Paradise isn't a Sony game.

Oh.. still, cool that they're offering new DLC for free. Yes, I do find that peculiar that Microsoft promotes DLC and while it's true for the XBLA stuff, the PSN gets full PS3 games (not counting original PS1 or Xbox games on either network).

I think the original poster is focusing more on the fact that the PSN is seeing PS3 game releases such as Warhawk, Socom Confrontation, Siren, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, GT5:P and now Burnout Paradise.

@Onyxmeth

The last couple of months:

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Pixel Junk Monsters
Siren Blood Curse
Pixel Junk Eiden

The Next few weeks:
Ratchet and Clanck Q4B
Socom Comfrontation
Burnout Paradise
Wipeout HD

All high quality titles that MS has not even tried to match with XBL. That is the point people are trying to get across. Sony is putting out high quality products on PSN, and quality is much better than quantity.

I know Burnout is not made by Sony, it's made by Criterion games. I just thought it was ironic that Microsoft is being outperformed by Sony in the realm of downloadable games due to the fact that Microsoft sets a limit on the amount of space a developer can use to create a game.

I don't see any full games on XBLA marketplace though. All I see is a bunch of cheap and pathetic over-priced games that have no creativity or value. I would rather have a select few high-quality games on PSN than a bunch of shit games thrown at me every week with a 15 dollar price tag.

Listing GT5 and Siren I can understand. But saying that XBL is matching games like Eden and Monsters is foolish.
