as far as im concerned this console race is between ps3 and Wii ONLY
so only time can tell ... but i think when the wii lifecycle is over it would be the winner !! ....maybe later in ps3s lifecycle it would have sold more

The interviewed just gave the typical PR response, since it was non-official statement. If you want to know what Sony really thinks, read their financial statements, there this kind of "PR" is considered as lies and are forbidden by the law.

 

I agree with you, it did seem like he is overstating some of his assumptions just to gave a better picture of his employer. However, even in Sony's Financial statements they didn't mention any future predictions of how will sales be. But they didn't provide for provision for loss, which also signals that they do not predict losses in the coming periods.

 

What I am trying to say is that: They didn't say that they expect more sales explicitly but they implicitly stated that they do not predict losses which are the same (putting in mind that they have been making losses on the PS3 the past 2 years).

 

In other words he might be true based on the FS (But still not that true as to make the PS3 reach 70 Million)

So the PS3 is going to sell 50million units in two years and the Wii is only going to sell 40 million in the same time span huh?

That one doesn't fly...

 i know ps3 has a ten year plan .... but i thought wii was 5-6 lifecycle??? do u know something i dont ??? i will be glad to hear what u hafe to say.

Well, what was Sonys target shipments this year? Not very high, something like 9 million in FY 2008? Which means they need to magically start selling the consoles on a rate, that's double so far, that's after 31.3.2009 if they're spot-on with the target. Everytime they make new prediction for the shareholders, look what they target and go by it. You may notice, that "just a while ago", the company didn't believe what the latest PR is saying. This is once again meant for the message boads and forums, not for the investors, to who you can't lie.

I don't think i know anything that you don't, maybe except how market works. It's not in Sonys hands how long the market will support PS3, and by looking the sales numbers, the market isn't going to support the PS3 for much longer than until PS4 comes out (and considering Sony understands the market and wants to fight for the marketshare, they need to put out the PS4 as soon as it's possible).
