Forums - Microsoft - 360 failure rates as high as 33% says EB Games

I just hope the issue goes away soon. I really don't want to wait another 2 years for them to fix this before getting a 360.

 Wow!

the Xbox 360 is the least reliable gaming console in recent history.

Recent history?  Has there been a non-recent gaming console with a higher failure rate?  At least a major one?  Maybe one of the Atari 2600's competitors?

And really, a 1/3 failure rate is so ridiculous its beyond comprehension.  Has there been any recent electronic device with a failure rate even in that ballpark?

Any one think MS will get hammered for this when the truth finally comes out.

This really could sink the console, who will but a 360 if all the new papers websites news shows are talking about Ms defective products/cover ups.

It's this kinda stuff that puts me off buying any kinda Microsoft hardware, although I don't think their software is that great either

well their mice are good. you should try them.

I had a MS Laser mouse for a while and I ended up dumping it for a Logitech MX 1000 Laser.  I'll never go back to MS mice.

It seems the mods need help with this forum.  I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Not at all. Every 360 owner almost has accepted it as a fact because they are embracing the games so they don't wanna avoid the system even with the risks it entails.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

In addition it seems most 360 owners have gladly accepted multiple failures and are returning them and getting refurbished ones back (see man with 12 broken 360s).

Of course they have.  The vast majority of customers love the box.

Seriously though, this is the kind of report I was waiting for before really believing that failure rates were this bad.  If a retail chain has actually revised their service plan price because of the failure rate, that's some pretty damning evidence.  I mean you know businesses are accurately tracking their repair costs vs. service plan revenue.  This carries a lot more weight than anecdotal evidence and internet polls.

Current owners or xbox loyalists sure maybe, but not nin fanboys or PS2 owners, they will not want a defective box.

So far, I know somebody with a red ringed 360. He said his little brother was playing for a short amount of time when it happened. Whether you believe me or not, I don't care, but I'm kind of concerned for my friends' 360's. One friend's 360 ate his Oblivion disk, but it was from his error of moving the console (even thought it was a slight movement).

It's like the 360 bleeds money.

You don't need to be a "nin fanboy" to have serious concerns about the reliability of the 360.  No one wants to spend $400 on a video game console that's likely to die.
