Forums - Gaming - So many Sequels? Does anyone esle not want new games

De85 said:

I like a few sequels now and again, like Halo 3, Fable 2, and Gears 2 (hoping they let it die after 3 so it doesn't become stale), but I personally am all about new IP. That's why I didn't hesitate to snap up Dead Rising, Bioshock, and Mass Effect. When it eventually comes out Alan Wake will be a 1st day purchase for me.

edit: @senortaco  I don't really think a Castlevannia game or a Star Wars game should be in the list for new IP's on the Wii, nor Beautiful Katamari on the 360.

I agree 100% a few sequels are bad but have to support the new titles.  I bought Bioshock, mass effect, assasains creed, and crackdown.  Problem is we all now all th games I mentioned will get a sequel usually by number 3 it gets old.  The first one is new and awesome number 2 they update and correct all the issues, mistakes bugs as well as take all the user community feedback and put it in so it can be a better game but stilla re tread by number three its just old

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

The list belong does not include multiplats(excludes handhelds), and Downloadable games. All games have* at LEAST a tentative date.

And this proves why so many people recommend the Wii thanks fore list man :)

Um, without downloadable games, it's kind of meaningless.

It's nice to see a valid discussion turning into a Nintendo versus Sony/Microsoft hate thread.

Myself, I think that the massive amount of sequels is a problem.

For every sequel created by a brilliant studio we miss out on something new and exciting. A really good example of this would be the end of the Super Nintendo era Square. They really did some awesome stuff then, none of which would have been made today. Those games would all have a Final Fantasy title, and probably be a lot more boring.

This said, I'm not sure whether the fault is with the consumers for being cowards only buying sequels or the industry for being cowardly (and wanting profit) and mostly producing sequels.

Also, I would like to point out that even sequels and spinoffs can be innovative. And the industry has progressed a lot the last decade, with many small innovations that has made a lot of difference to playability and fun. But it doesn't feel exciting and new when the game is called Final Fantasy XXXIII or Call of Duty 68.

... Oh god, those sound like porn titles. *>,

Never understood the Nintendo vs Sony vs MS I hope no one on this board works for any one of them so why do feverish in there defense.  Sorry to say those comapnies dont give a rats you know what about you.  I think there is a system out there for everyone and nintendo clearly has there marker, sony and MS do have a lot of overlap but there are reasons to own either one.  All three have strengths and weaknesses it depends on what and how you like to play depending on which system you should own.  I love my 360 but when asked by firends and co workds on which system shoud I buy I first ask a lot of questions like who its for, how old, what they play or have played and liked and then advise either a Ps3, 360 or WII

I made another thread on this about sequels. read that to see what i think. I completely disagree with the OP.

@WoW - To me all downloadable games, on XBLA, PSN, WiiWare are original. All 3 at least recognize what the OP'er mention and came up with downloadable games this gen. I just don't think it's necessary to point out the obvious as far as that goes.

@xman -True. I think that is why you're seeing, more companies merging now.

The Interweb is about overreaction, this is what makes it great!

...Imagine how boring the interweb would be if everyone thought logically?

@Killergran - I agree with you. I think the reason for the sequels is as well cost. I think with the cost of development ACROSS the board higher now small devs, and pubs have to be creative. You are seeing more smaller companies partner up to create games.

...Someone mentioned before how it appears the gaming industry is starting to resemble the movie industry.

Read your post and you have some valid points but without sequels consoles would suck seemed a little over the top
