In the real world behind all the rhetoric and propaganda on all sides, it is real politik which reigns supreme. For all of you people asking for NATO to intervene please read up a little on the region. Keep in mind that currently America is very overstretched militarily. It is currently fighting 2 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Also because russia borders Georgia it doesn't have to worry much about logistics and in any possible intervention it would have a massive advantage.
All this talk about democracy is laughable as America itself has been an empire for a very long time now. Or doesn't occupying over 100 countries worldwide make the USA qualify??
The west and especially the US of A have been very hypocritical in this crisis as they have themselves used humanitarian intervention as an excuse to attack and cut up smaller and weaker sovereign states without United Nations approval.
All this illustrates that no countries care about democracy or the sanctity of life but only about their own selfish and narrow interests. This has been the case from the beginning of time and will continue to be the case until the end of mankind.
TBH the only way I can see peace is if god himself came down to earth and laid down the law or if we got conquered by aliens XD
