Forums - Microsoft - Fatal Inertia now exclusive to the 360?

Here is the article the site references. As URNotE has pointed out, Epic and Sony are tweaking the Unreal Engine 3, so this game has been delayed for the PS3. Basically, the are making a custom Unreal Engine based off of 3 that will utilize the SPUs and RSX better. My guess, they will somehow incorporate the new Edge tools. Should be interesting, although I do consider this more "bad" press of losing yet another exclusive for Sony.

At this point, Sony still has things bassackwards.

UE3 is the most important game engine in the world. It's used in countless AAA games and much of the industry relies on it as the basis of its games. Sony released dev kits around 18 months ago. How in HELL did they not call Epic at least once to check on the progress of converting UE3 to run properly on the Cell?

I swear, Sony entered this generation with its pants around its ankles.

Koei responsed by stating that the PS3 version is "delayed indefinitely" due to "progress of the game engine for PS3".

Sony should absolutely be terrified after hearing this line.

Agreed. I'd point out that this topic isn't really about the game "Fatal Inertia," which I had never heard of before this thread and almost certainly will never buy (since I don't have a 360). Just as the "Madden looks better on 360" issue wasn't exactly about Madden specifically, either.

Instead, these games are symbols: Fatal Intertia represents the shift away from PS3 development towards 360 development, and Madden shows that Sony's supposedly superior machine isn't actually producing games that look better (and in fact in many cases, look worse).

From Level Up's article a month ago detailing the PS3's poor sales:

"And we both know the sales need to pick up, pronto--especially if Sony wants to keep third party interest. Already third party executives are telling me that if PS3 sales stay below 100k for 3 consecutive months, PS3 SKUs may start disappearing from release lists and in turn create a wealth of de-facto exclusives for the Xbox 360."

And this is the first case that I've seen that fits right in to this description. This game is fairly little, but its significance is important: if the PS3 continues to sell poorly, I suspect we will see more and more of these "de-facto exclusives for the Xbox 360" in the future.

Does anyone actually give a damn about this game?

It's just a rip-off of Wipeout(which is owned by Sony), and there are already two Wipeout games coming out by the end of the year.

Consoles owned: Saturn, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, PSP, DS, PS3

That's not the point. The point is that Sony's once tall tower is still crumbling. Sure it starts with the worthless games, eventually more games will follow. GO WITH THE FLOW

Aren't you overreacting a bit? The tower falling... why is it that you get pleasure out of this again? Did Sony kill your family or something? I heard Sony had some crazy days back when it was young...

Edit: The Madden playing better on 360 issue has to do with familiarity with the hardware. 360 is familiar territory, they are still getting used to the PS3. I'm sure it's more than likely that Madden 09 on the PS3 will run the same as the 360 version.

Stop pretending to be the harbingers of doom because the PS3 is running 2 games at lower frames and is losing an exclusive unknown title.

No. Don't take any of that at face value. I was bored, wanted to say something. It was all sarcasm. It's too bad that sarcasm is hard to sense on the internet.

The whole discussion of this is that the paradigm shift between the PS3 and 360 exclusives/timed exclusives/momentum is clearly still in the 360's realm, and not closing.

I've heard of Fatal Inertia all of twice. However, a big library with tons of smaller and middleweight games is what made the PS3 so big. For all we know, Fatal Inertia could do well in Japan (atleast for a 360 game), and more hardware, taking the 2:1 sales ratios of the 360 and PS3 to continue for even longer (whereas the ratio should be 3:1 by now)

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Thats nice, but how does that explain All Pro Football 2K8? The 360 version of it runs at 60fps and the PS3 runs at 30fps. This is Visual Concepts first football game in 3 years. It has nothing to do with familiarity with the hardware. Developers are starting games on the 360 and then moving them over to PS3. Even if that weren't the case, developers have to work harder to on a PS3 game to get similar performance. That problem compounds when a game engine was programmed from the ground up on 360.

Same explanation. 2K is more familiar with the 360 hardware.
