Super Mario 64 happened thats what. After playing Mario 64 The original Crash and any for that matter seem empty, slow and awkward to control. If Mario 64 is a 10 Crash is a 3. I remember playing Crash Bandicoot and thinking, wait a minute this is on PSX and it is not as enjoyable as Donkey Kong Country.
