Forums - Nintendo - My Okami Wii review, dont believe what reviewers says on sites and mags

I've just finished the game (60 hours including many sidequests), and i totally agree with yushire: the controls are just great, i don't understand why so many people seem to have problems...

True, sometimes you create a wind instead of a blossom, or you have to try the brush a 2nd time... but it's really a minor issue... i think some players and/or reviewers are just too bad, and use to blame the Wii or a game's controls when they should only blame their own skills...

And about the weapons, same advice down here, i've also used the rosaries as my main weapons: very powerful, and the combos are easy to do... just swing with a good timing, and use the techniques learned in the dojos, and you'll be fine...

The only minor issues i had were some camera problems in some narrow places, but it's the same thing with 99% of the games out there, nothing dramatic or poorly designed in itself...

So yeah, my final note: a 9.5/10... don't believe the "so-so" reviews, and try it yourself, especially if you like adventure games (and especially Zelda), and if you usually like good Wii controls... this is one of the best experience you may have on Wii, alongside Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 or Resident Evil 4...

And the hits makes godhand too, you cant harmed if you have godhand a plus if you have the rosary since you actually have good amount amount of hits in one swipe what more if you have a combo

I just want to know, does the combo system alone ruin the game? Would you have bought it knowing how the controls work?

The combo system is fine. I would buy it because in my experience the wiimote control add to the overall experience ( it's satisfating draw ). however there is abit of learing curve at the start to understand how it works especially the slash power.

I have a question:

*SPOILER*

In the latter part of the game you can acquire the headbutt ability to smash large boulder. How do you use this ability ?

Alright. I guess the game is good enough to buy then.

If you don't have the PS2 version and you like adventure game then I reccomend to buy this Wii game.

Okami has one the best gameplay with the wii-remote yes the rosaries are more useful I agree Mirrors and Sword are powerful but you need to freez time to have a real benifit of their power or combine there many ways but I totally agree Yushire about Rosaries of course I'm talking about Combo 3, 4, 5...8 hits.

I agree that this game is very good, but I do feel that the control issues (including camera - why no centring button?) are more frustrating than they need to be. This is especially the case with set pieces, where you can complete 80% of a routine (e.g. Mr Orange's dance) only for the game to not recognise your final stroke and then have to repeat the whole thing from scratch (while not being able to skip dialogue sequences you've already sat through a number of times). None of these things stop Okami from being an excellent game, but I have found them to be very annoying and I think that they wouldn't have been issues with more careful and skilled development (surely some beta tester pointed out that, in many cases, the Wiimote gesture recognition was awful?).

YEAH, the camera is pain in the ass especially on the racing game, you know what I mean when you get there. And I post the same thing on the Mr. Orange thing, I could even tell that many gamers arent playing the game after that... The most frustrating part of the game.
