Forums - Sony - Does Playstation Eye work as PC webcam?

Anyone know if the PS Eye will work on PCs as a webcam for Skype or Aim?

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Well, that would suggest that it's only built for the PS3's OS only.

Lame. Considering Sony doesn't have a cheap webcam on the market, you would think the PS Eye would be a great opportunity to fill that niche. What a waste.

PS2 Eyetoy has unofficial drivers available but as far as i know nothing yet for the PS3 Eye. should only be a matter of time though before some become available ;)

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

I'm sure somebody will make unofficial drivers. The PS3 controller has had user created PC drivers since not long after the PS3 launched.

It's only a matter of drivers. Sony hasn't published any yet.

There are drivers for NetBSD, so it's just a matter of (a short) time for it to come to linux.
If you want to install NetBSD or any Linux distro, it should work.

They will know Helgan belongs to Helghasts

There were 2 drivers to use the ps3 controller. Am sure I driver or 2 will come for the PSeye.... ones that aren't from SONY....
