Sorry for going slightly off topic, but I recently found out that Japanese PC Engine shipments ended up at 5.84m. There are quite a few Japanese sources for that. WW shipments were probably a little under 10m at 8-9m.

Yeah, PC Engine outsold Mega Drive by over 2 million in Japan, but never had a proper release in Europe which hurt it's global market share.

That gen was the closest there's been for market share, but this gen could be even closer.

Taking for what´s selling in the last 2 years:

wii- 60 mill
X360- 37 mill
PS3- 54 mill

p.s.: the ps3 in the first year (2007), almost beat x360, in this year is already down by 2 millions and counting. ANd wii is not exactly a contender as they aim in the casual market, so my opinion is, in the future at least a third of the wii owners will have another console as a complement.

i think ps3 and wii will pass 100 million by the end. i think xbox 360 will finish somewhere around 35-45 million.
