Forums - Sony - So, seeking suggestions.

Just got a PS3 and am looking for a good tool to stream music to it.

My Windows Media Player setup (which I stream to my 360 with) seems to be recognized by it, but I can't seem to play anything but single songs at a time from it without copying the stuff over to the PS3. If there are other programs or just ways to do this without copying my entire library over, I'd love to hear them. (And would streaming work to play stuff from the in-game XMB? I'm still getting used to the interface again, after getting rid of my PSP a couple years back.)

Thanks in advance.

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Aniway, i've been looking for something like this too and this orb seems nice, thanks.

EDIT: Damn, what a waste of my 1000th post, i should have kept it for a better thread

I was afraid someone would say this. I first tried using Winamp Remote (Orb-based) to stream to my 360 before I figured out WMP, but always got "Media server" errors as soon as I tried playing something, and Orb would shut down on my computer. Never figured out what was causing it, but it seems to be the case on the PS3 as well.

I guess I should just be asking more precise questions, like "Is there a simple way to play multiple tracks from a remote source, or should I just waste the time to copy my entire library over to the PS3?" When I bring up the menu on a track with the triangle button, I get 3 options for anything on my computer: Play, Copy, and Information. I also can't seem to edit playlists either.

I hate to think I got spoiled by the ease of use of the 360's streaming ability, but thusfar the PS3 media interface seems far clunkier to me. (Hopefully it's the newness, but it just seems to be missing features that I'm used to having, like clicking "play" on an album and having it play that album.)

Nero is supposed to work really well, my friend uses it all the time:

Using Nero 7

* Download and install Nero from here (note, only the trial is free).
* Go to your Start bar > All programs > Nero 7 > Share > Nero MediaHome

Then in MediaHome, in the panel on the left select:

Shared Directories: Set the folders that you want to share

Network: Enable your connection to the network (mine was the Wifi connection)

Devices: > Access control: Just click on Automatically Allow All

Transcoding: Select 'Automatic' for all

Leave all other options as default or change as nescessery.

Then go to your PS3 and Search For Media Servers. Presto!

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Well, conveniently, I already had Nero, so I set it up, but I'm still encountering the same issues. Namely, I can't get it to play anything more than single songs at a time without copying over to the PS3. Can't add to a playlist, and can't tell it to play a whole folder (album) of songs.

Perhaps there's some simple way around it, but it seems to be pretty shoddy compared to the ease of playing music from the 360 dashboard.

[Edit: Technically, they're all working, so I can "see" my music on my computer. It just won't let me do anything other than play single songs. No option to add to a playlist, nothing.]

I use Windows media player 11 and it works really good with no prob what so ever,,,,I set up a library on the PC and I easily access that library from PC,,,if you wanted to know how let me know(very easy actually)

Orb is the worst solution but you can find it here:  http://www.orb.com/

TVersity works great as a streaming option that you can find here:  http://tversity.com/

TWonkyMedia is probably the best server utility and you can find it here:  http://www.twonkyvision.de/

Try TVersity first and see if it suits your needs.  If not, try TWonkyMedia.
