Forums - Gaming - Video game controller family tree.

Dont know if this has been posted before, but this site has a family tree showing the evolution of video game controllers, it even has prototype pictures of the SNES / Playstation / N64 / Gamecube / Xbox 360 controllers.

Let's see... Which one introduced analog control first?

*is not surprised/amused* o_O

*EDIT: It seems the site didn't update with the Dualshock 3 yet. But they did add the Wii/Xbox 360/Sixaxis at least from last time I checked it out.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

best tree ever!!!

Needs to be a link between DualShock2 and the CC.

its amazing that every controller thats bieng used by the big 3 can be traced back to the nes

Wii/Mario Kart Wii Code:2793-0686-5434

^No they can be traced back to the 2600 and Intellivision.

^just look at the tree, nes has no connection with 2600 and Intellivision in the tree, their influence stopped at atari jaguar

Not really since today's controllers with the exception of the Wii are gamepads, like the nes, and the Atari 2600 used a Joystick while the Intellivision used a keypad.

You see this in the timeline, when the NES is something new and not evolving off of either the systems you mentioned. Most consoles today except the Wii use a gamepad. The wii could end up being just like the NES where most of everything after that is an evolution of the Wiimote, until the next revolution.
