Forums - Nintendo - The Wii Isn't For Core Gamers?

Onyxmeth said:

That's quite a pathetic list considering it's spread between 2008 and 2009 releases. This isn't to knock the Wii, but if you were trying to make a point by naming 10 core games over the next 9-12 months, you really didn't prove a damn thing. In fact if I were to go by your list and had no other knowledge of the Wii's lineup, I would say the Wii truly doesn't have much of any "core" games at all.

They have two Treasure games coming out for the Wii. What else could you possibly want? We just need some more details on those games already.

@Onimusha-Your problems with the games obviously go way beyond just where they're ending up. If major support goes to the Wii, you'll just end up having to deal with these same games you don't care for on your own console. Switching to Wii development isn't going to turn on the lightbulb for these developers where they suddenly have miraculous ideas. It will be more of the same on the Wii. If you don't care for online gaming then fine, but that is where the industry is going, and even Nintendo is making slow strides in that direction.

Out of everything the HD consoles are getting you're only interested in RE5 and DMC4? So basically just Capcom games then huh? So how is it you like much of anything on the Wii? It shares the same genres that the HD consoles have, just provides a few less games at the moment. You couldn't possibly be excited about much of any of these third party games other than maybe MadWorld.

You keep patiently waiting for your support to come, and then you can refill for hatred meter when you realize the games that got turned over to the Wii were the exact same games you didn't buy an HD console for. Take into account too, that my statement was also referring to the fact that the DS takes up a lot of possible Wii resources and probably screws it over worse than the HD consoles do. Crystal Chronicles took a long hiatus on the Wii, but the DS got their version in a timely matter. The Wii got a Castlevania fighting game and the DS got the next sidescroller. The Wii got a Dragon Quest Swords game while Square put Dragon Quest IX on the DS. Think about what the Wii is really losing support to and then think if that little machine is going away any time soon.

Everything you said is a valid argument if it's your own personal opinion, but I commented that you were talking about all Wii owners being patient which many aren't and nothing you said in your follow up refers to them at all, just yourself.

Oh and please rejoin the Madden topic Oni. I thought you were trying to make a point.

@Gnizmo-If I get excited now, I might literally blow up when the first details and trailers do get released so I'll just sit back and play the new Treasure DS games in the meantime and forget Treasure said that for now. Hey just to let you know, they also mentioned wanting to put Radiant Silvergun on Xbox Live. I would pay through my wallet for that to happen.

I don't ask for you to find resolution with what I said, I'd simply ask you contribute more to discussion than simply hiding behind ownership of all three consoles as a fail safe for your opinions, lol.

The DS is more popular in Japan and was more popular when develop for these games began, its not hard to see that even in the second year of the Wii's life that it still is the more viable option. However, don't expect that to stay the same forever and even then the Ds wasn't much better off when it came out, third party support is something it's had to earn. The Problem is you're assuming the Wii would have gotten these games had the DS not been around, its so naive. Who is the DS really robbing games from? Why, look no further than the PSP.

As for me speaking of the Nintendo community here, I stand by my statement, the Nintendo community is patient, just simply look around you. Sure there are Wii owners not happy with the current situation, but simply discussing poor third party support or expressing dissapointment in third party support doesn't make Nintendo gamers impatient, just realistic. Unless people are selling their Wii's in mass out of disgusts or decreeing hatred of Nintendo, I don't see many in the Nintendo community as a whole lacking much patience.

Oh and the Madden topic, you really think that bothers me? I was stirring the pot in hopes of getting people to defend it and get me to like the idea of a Wii Version. I wanted someone to make me a believer in this game and in the end I had no choice but to give up out of disgust! Christ, I'll gladly be wrong anyday when it comes to the Wii getting a good game. Get over it, you're not rubbing any lemons in a wound I'm afraid. Oh, but you tried didn't you, lol. ;)

@noname2200-If you're content with this year's lineup then that's awesome. Unfortunately we all know this Fall has left somewhat of a sour taste and a lot of people aren't happy with it. I have the luxury of putting my dollar towards DS, 360 and PSP(HA! yeah right) games, but others are not so lucky.

I can't deny that's true amongst many of us forum-goers. Still, I think that's more of an image than a reality problem, which is what I was trying to get at in my last post. There's quite a bit there for the "core" gamer coming out these next few months (although I'll be the first to admit that I'm never entirely sure what that term encompasses nowadays, even if I do know that Mario Sluggers ain't it). And I think that's what this and many similar threads have been trying to say: Nintendo may be MIA, but third-parties are actually picking up the slack on a Nintendo console for the first time in over a decade (hence the "odd feeling" I referred to in the last post).

Sure, people who already favor the HD consoles aren't going to change their minds this holiday season, but looking at the Wii exclusives and multi-plats, it seems to me like there's something for every taste, and that the Wii doesn't lag all that much behind the HD consoles in most genres (BIG exceptions: FPS and sandbox). Shoot, Activision's major franchises are all getting unaltered versions on the Wii, most Japanese companies have the lion's share of their console releases on the Wii nowadays, and the Wii is specializing in the quirky games that I find most appealing (Little King's Story and Rune Factory get!). In short, the light isn't as dim as it appeared at first blush.

Having said all that, I have to add in the disclaimer that most of the big HD games this winter don't appeal to me personally, save for Prince of Persia and Mirror's Edge, so perhaps my blanket statements aren't as all-encompassing as I'd like to believe.

And I agree with your ultimate point to Nirvana-Nut. From personal experience I know that when you start such a thread, you need to be prepared to finish it (which after my last experience is precisely why I won't be making these threads in the near future anymore. Although no one will ever make a longer post than I did!) So, Nirvana, the ball's in your court now. Looking forward to what you come up with!

In all honesty, the 20 or so games I listed are pretty much all I know of the upcoming core games for wii, I tried to find as many with pictures so thats why I said if I haven't covered any for other people to go ahead and do so. Also I'm sure that some games I didn't cover that in my opinion aren't core, well, others might believe they are and I also tried to minimize multiplatform games or again ones with out screenshots as much as possible and focus more on exclusives. Thank you for your input and help, it is appreciated.

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

These posts are good. They reveal all the MS astroturfers and the hardlycores. You see them running scared in these threads, trying to impose their pipe dream as reality.
They have to talk about a drought, but they won't say it like that. They may have up until PS1 games in their backlog, but that doesn't matter. They have to show the Wii has a drought of games.
That's because the goal post must keep moving, as the Wii is destroying everyone of their best goal posts too fast. Heck, the Wii will be the console with the most JRPG this year if all schedules stay like they are.
Don't worry, we won't hear about it, as that will be another goal post shattered.

The meltdowns are starting to show in this thread, and they are becoming more and more powerful.
We had "there are no games on Wii", then "3rd parties don't sell on Wii", then "3rd parties can't compete on Nintendo console", then "3rd party support is poor". Now we reached the "there are not enough games announced" and "there are no 1st party games for a long time".
Huh? Nintendo supposedly killed 3rd parties sales on their console with their 1st party games, and that's a bad thing, and now, there are no 1st party games (actually there are, but the astroturfers have to ignore them to make sense, or label them "casual", which means uninteresting shit games in their mouths) and it's a bad thing. I guess Nintendo can never win.

The anti-Wii people (and believe me, some even have a Wii, at least that's what they say) are hypocritical. But I guess it never escaped anyone's mind, I'm sure everyone knows it but noone will say it. They always wanted Nintendo and the Wii to fail. All their goal posts necessary for them to buy the console or not sell it back, or buy it back (as some have sold it and are the same people that can't find one, yes, these people are really that stupid), are just poor excuses. They never intended to buy anything, but they are astroturfers, they have to do their shill's job: to look like real grassroots Wii owners.

Their job is getting harder by the day now. The meltdowns are clearly getting bigger.
The charts are showing it clearly: Nintendo owns everything from Japan to Europe including NA.
They are bracing themselves right now for NPD this week. It will be Epic... or not. Even the hardcores are starting to be bored by the domination. They see that their cries have no effect at all.
Some (astroturfers? hardlycores?) are even saying Iwata apologized. Huh? Iwata didn't apologized to anybody, he just explained what happened at E3 for simpletons that couldn't understand.
Of course, simpletons couldn't stand the lecturing like they were stupid whining little boys, so they took it as apologizing, that better suits their reality.
Surely those will be the first ones to quit gaming, if they can't stand the situation as it is now, as Nintendo made it clear that it will be the norm from now on.

Did you ever get the second Bleach DS game? I need someone else to whip around in that game.

The thing is that some people might not consider all of those games necessarily as "core" games and for 007 they don't have any wii screenshots yet and I decided not to add the new mario, zelda or the speculated kid icarus that might come out but what we know are confirmed. Also thank you for adding new ones though as there were several that i didn't know about that look very interesting, thanks for the great input.
