Forums - Sony - Little Big Planet Will Be Hardware Seller Claims Sony

Everyone wants this.

Everyone who knows it exists. People who have no clue what it is and see it offhand may think it a Nintendo Mii rip-off or something obscure.

I'm not comparing LBP to Wii Sports or anything but all five of those could easily apply to Wii Sports. ;)

Yes, Mii's without arms and legs is rather creepy.  :P

Huh?

1. If Nintendo advertised anything they advertised this game. Plus it has a name advantage: Wii Sports is pretty self explanitory.

2. The goal of Wii bowling is about as simple as it can get.

3. Wii Sports has online? I've been missing out!

4. I thought all HD fanboys say that Wii Sports players is Wii's only demographic.

5. This is a matter of taste. I really like both design choices.

I didn't really want to get into a point-by-point argument but here goes.

1.  I wasn't saying that the game wasn't advertised or that the name didn't speak for itself, but you (and Godot) act as if the game will be released and no advertising will follow it.  If they're aiming for the "everyone" crowd, then obviously, it will be advertised to everyone.

2.  And the goal of LBP is harder than bowling?  It's a simple go from point A to point B using tools/environment.  The goal is pretty easy.  The level may not be that easy, but that's not what we're talking about.

3.  You've proved my point.  Wii Sports, a game that is much smaller in scope than LBP does fine without online.  I'd hardly imagine 60 stages could be not interesting in the same fashion that five sports games without online is not interesting also.  If Wii Sports is fine without online, than so will LBP be.

4.  Resorting to fanboys of a console to make a point?  You're better than that.

5.  Exactly.  I like both too, so it's a non-issue.

Sorry but you're just completely off in your response here.

Wii Sports is about as obvious and intuitive as you can get to attract the crowd they wanted.  People who are not into games know what they need to do in sports, its much more simplistic than platformers.

And Wii Sports is predominantly a multiplayer game, I don't see LBP doing the same.

Sup guys, I'm a noob to vgc, sorry if I'm was suppose to make a welcome thread or something, I lurk mostly, my background is PC gaming, i had all 3 consoles in the last gen, mostly for my kids an occasional sports games. So I guess I'm what you would call a causal gamer. Because of my job, IT, I have free time to check the interweb and such. To sum it up I've tried to research Little Big Planet, but for the life of me I can't find out WHAT it REALLY is?

So is this a real new person or just a Sony supporter desperate enough to pretend to be a casual gamer who is actually tempted by the PS3's offerings of this game?

lol, no I'm new. I just like video games period. Me and my bro tried to program for the VIC-20 when we were kids. I know I just aged myself but I'm in that demographic of gamers that got BACK interested with gaming due to this current gen. I like the sites forums it's a pretty good read. I just wanted to ask about Little Big Planet cause I've read so much about it, but all I've read was that it's a great level editor. =/

sidenote...It wasn't until today that I saw in a video posted in this thread that you are suppose to save a princess. I guess my question being, coming from a "casual" point of view I want to know more about the platform aspect vs. the creation aspect.

...Like how deeper is the adventure?

On a new IP I doubt it, people are betting way to much on the game.

I'm willing to bet that within 3 months of LBP coming out there's a fox news story "Little Big Planet: The game that gives YOUR CHILDREN PORN!" about some guy going around and using the PS3 Eye to take some... interesting pictures.

Anyway, other than that, sackboys are ungodly monsters that I want nothing to do with, and I really don't see how this game appeals to the wii sports crowd. That'd be like saying Wii Sports would be a system seller for 'hardcore' players if you replaced all the Miis with models from Halo 3: It'd still be a simplistic game that 'hardcore' people wouldn't get behind, the same way that LBP looks like it's way too complex for Wii Sportsters.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Acolyte of Disruption

Well... I don't see that happening. It will sell good software wise but to move hardware is another story. Bundle the thing and it'll sell really hot.

LBP will be a hardware pusher!!!

well, hopefully it is, but i doubt it, except maybe in Japan.
