Forums - Sales - 360 Worldwide Sales Numbers Aren't Even Plausible - 19.5M 360 Sales

I have acess to Media Create, NPD, and Chart-Track/GTK numbers at work and did some sums for the worldwide 360 sales and the most recent figues only come out to around 19.5 million. Actual numbers are probably a little higher for the various smaller countries that aren't tracked by the major companies.

I don't think 20.15 million is even possible for the 360 given the latest worldwide shipment figures from Microsoft's most recent quartely report, a reasonable estimate of how many 360s Microsoft has been shipping each month in 2008, and the number of 360s sitting on store shelves unsold worldwide.

For 20.15 million to be even possible Microsoft would have to made a dramatic increase in shipments relative to the previous six months of 2008 and/or less than Wii levels of stock sitting on the shelves worldwide.

There seems to be a fairly large number of mystery sales being reported for the 360 in the Others category along with a somewhat inflated North America life to date sales that come out to some 500-600 thousand extra 360 sales that have no data to back them up with.

This site's "America" data includes figures for central and south America, this would be the 500k plus you would get if you add up NPD sales for Canada and the US. I'm pretty sure there has been official numbers for these other areas but i'm not sure if it was 360 data or wii data and they just use estimations to calculate for the other systems.

And if you have full data for these tracking firms and wish to share these numbers with the site so we can produce better numbers then click the "Staff" icon at the bottom of the page and send an email or PM to Brett Walton (ioi).

The official shipment figures for March - June 2008 was 1.3m which adds to the 19m officially announced at GDC for LTD shipments at March 2008.

This equates to 20.3m shipped as at 30 June 2008.

Its now August with 20.15m sold so I dont see whats so hard to believe.

By the way all the numbers you quoted are chart tracking sites as well which is what VGChartz is as well. Its not trying to copy them. Each site has its own independent methodology for tracking so you can only use official statements as a source for shipped numbers.

In other words you are saying the X360 is over tracked on VGChartz. What about the other two consoles: Wii and PS3?

Lol, it's been awhile since I've seen a post like this. And since it's your first, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and respond. Those tracking services you provided do not track all areas of the world. Several places such as Mexico, Russia, China, etc. have no tracking services. VGChartz also does some of it's own tracking services. The goal of most tracking services is to either spend the resources to aim at 95%, 90% or 80% accuracy. Even if (which you really haven't given any calculation/proof here) you could show that the xbox 360 is at 19.65 million units, that would just show that this web site is 2.5% off and in fact pretty close to accurate.

the Americas on this site is more then just north america.

Anyway what about the Wii or the PS3

I have accurate data that proves that the PS3 has in fact sold 200 trillion units!

How is it not plausible? Could you list Famitsu, Chart Track and NPD data on sales? A comparison would be very interesting.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Whether or not the topic starter is correct or not (and whether or not it's about deflated PS3 sales, inflated Xbox sales or whatever else is under-overtracked...):

Whenever one questions certain sales, it's always "fanboy!" or "VGC rules" or something.

How about a sensible talk about how VGC actually gets its data, in order to improve it or to comment on it, so that they may get even better results and such? No, it's always "attack the one challenging VGC".

Man, you've only been here for like a month or two, in a few months you will have fun with these threads too. People already explained it too him, and there will always be people that do that. But come on, these threads are a free pass to post some funny shit, take advantage of it.
