@iamfanboy: Like how it works with DS?

Not good enough LOL  More... think MS style!

Really? How about you look at my list of DS game recommendations.

http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=36367

The list isn't even finished, and its overan by third party games. MS isn't as balanced imo. They have plenty of 3rd party games, but most are multiplats, and they have barely any 1st party games.

@iamfanboy So that is what we are seeing with the DS? I don't think so. Look at DS suppor compared to that of almost every next gen console. It has the best Japanese support, and much better western support than the Wii, and probably equal to the PSP. So I don't think that is the case.

DS's installbase is so great that it forces third parties to take it seriously.  As for the Wii, the combined install base of PS3/360 is sustainable for third parties so???????? we have Nintendo running the show :)

After counting there are 52 third party games on that list. 14 first party games. the list isn't even finished.

Well soon the Wii will pass the combined sales of the ps360 soon. Also the developement costs are 2-6 times cheaper depending on the budget of the game, and I bet a port is even cheaper than that.

@outlawauron I would actually love that. I still have yet to buy a persona game though. Been planning on the pass 2 months, but I have so many other games too buy. I'll get them eventually. (:

Yes, the DS is impressive but the DS also has very little competition.

This is all hypothetical but imagine if MS had entered the handheld market.  Third parties would start looking at the combined userbase of PSP/MS and honeslty I believe a shift would have taken place.  Not in Japan though :)  There's no way to prove or disprove it but it makes one think.

This is exactly why I recently purchased an HD console. I love Nintendo made games but they will never break out of their stereotype. It doesn't matter if the Wii sells 5 times what they're doing now... they will always get the shaft from third parties (majority) when it comes to T/M rated games.

It's been what... two years now, and again Nintendo will run the show.

Damn, Nintendo's awesome!!! They should invest in expanding their game divisions exponentially, ban third parties all together and do what they do best!

This is why I am re-buying 360 on the Sept. 20.

Nintendo has lost $300+ (just off the hardware) that I would have spent on Wii Games if Nintendo had gotten on the ball and pushed third parties a little bit.

Everyone complains about money hats, except me.

Long term, Nintendo needs core gamers to stay loyal and (mostly) exclusive Nintendo owners to maintain the money printer. It's a key component.

Now it's too late, too many Wii owners are already multi-system owners or planning to be.

If Nintendo had dished out $20 million for a dozen third party games for the core a year ago, then it wouldn't be a problem now. Nintendo would have good press from mainstream media and gaming press. Casuals would show it off in their homes and hardcore would testify to it's greatness.

This is going to come back and bite them in the ass in a couple years. It's history repeating itself... all over again.

This is why Nintendo could never have the Sony-like dominance for home consoles even in it's NES/SNES days; because they don't know how to deal with third parties and they are stubborn.

That's why they're so bad at online play, they can't play well with others and figure everybody else is just like them :P

That being said, Nintendo is a very innovative company based on strong business fundamentals; I have no doubt that they will make a ton of money.

I don't blame Nintendo, most of my fave games are made by them.  They do thier own thing and most of the time it's awesome.   The NES/SNES had amazing support, it sold less because the market was smaller.

Honestly, buying a 360 was the best thing I ever did... I get all the Nintendo goodies + third party games.

Mercenaries - Never on a Nintendo product. Not really going to benefit their demograph. Maybe those that bought No More Heroes...
Yakuza 2 - PS2 exclusive (for now)
Eternal Poison - probably because Atlus love making RPG's for the PS2 specifically. Most games don't go multi-platform from Atlus anyways
Warriors Orochi - no excuse for this one.

You've basically described reasons why these companies and Nintendo need to get it together... they're not maximizing profit.

As far as Mercanaries 2, I believe this would do 200-300k making back the costs of the port from PS2 if it was launched simultaneously.  With or with out Wii, I think M2 will outsell M1 total on all consoles.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I'm not blaming Nintendo, either... I am still a Nintendo Fan.  They make the best games.

I get frustrated when I see companies not maximizing profit and guilty of poor long term planning.

Same here, I've owned every Nintendo home console.  Many people argue that it's always the market leader that gets all the games so I was looking forward to it... boy that back fired LOL  The last Wii game I bought was MOHH2 (fantastic game)... that was a while ago LOL

This is the first time I own a none nintendo console.   It's not like I have hate for Nintendo, I really am a big fan but enough is enough.

@iamfanboy It took the ds 3 years before it got that amount of third party support. Almost all of the support went to the psp. The wii's third party support is increasing at a steady pace. At this point in its life it is much better than that of the DS'. I'm pretty sure in a few years we will see the Wii passing the other consoles in terms of Japanese support, handhelds get most of it now, and the HD consoles get sllightly more than the Wii, and maybe even half the amount of Western support that the HD consoles get. Also if Mohh2 is the last game you got, I could reccomend tons of 1st and 3rd party Wii games if you want. Just PM me.
