What does do you mean by linear and unlinear when used in that context?

Around the Network

Linear means that the input can only occur in a fixed few directions (ie. left-to-right, left-right-up-down, etc.). Non-linear means that the input is allowed in a much wider space, consisting of at least two free dimensions of movement (X/Y, Y/Z, or X/Z).

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

Oh ok that's better. If that is the case then hopefully motion plus will sell well so more games utilize it. I'm sure it will since it is being packed in with Wii Sports.

Motion Plus might have been a hasty reaction from Nintendo when they realized the controller needed more inputs.

BTW, you might want to put this link in your sig also - http://seanmalstrom.wordpress.com/ - that's where Malstrom has been posting his most recent stuff.

wow, I disagree with fkusumot, it's madness

And as for PC's superiority, I don't think that more inputs = better controls, with the exception of a few games

Madness!

You stated that you didn't think more inputs = better controls, but hasn't that been the progression for the industry?

Yes, that is how the industry is progressing, and as I said I counted the Wii's inputs as 16, not 10.

However I don't think you can just count the inputs and say that that's how good the controller is. Take for example, the N64 had 4 c buttons, whereas the GC had one c stick. In a game like smash bros or Soul Calliber II, the GC cstick was used as 4 independent buttons, but in many 1st person games it was used to control the camera, and did it much more effectively than 4 c buttons ever could

The way I see the evolution

dpad < analogue stick < motion controls. With the mouse having a similar purpose

buttons, for the most part, you dont actually need all that many, what's more important to me is how they're positioned.

the atari jaguar controller had way more buttons than all the consoles except pc, so all 3 had gone step back

What games actually use all the buttons?

^ games like tempest 2000, myst, flashback, syndicate and of course white men can't jump, i don't which game used all of the buttons though, i am 80% sure tempest used all of the buttons
