Yes, that is how the industry is progressing, and as I said I counted the Wii's inputs as 16, not 10.
However I don't think you can just count the inputs and say that that's how good the controller is. Take for example, the N64 had 4 c buttons, whereas the GC had one c stick. In a game like smash bros or Soul Calliber II, the GC cstick was used as 4 independent buttons, but in many 1st person games it was used to control the camera, and did it much more effectively than 4 c buttons ever could
The way I see the evolution
dpad < analogue stick < motion controls. With the mouse having a similar purpose
buttons, for the most part, you dont actually need all that many, what's more important to me is how they're positioned.
